Subject:Selling recycled water to Edna Valley vintners

We'd like to be on record as strongly opposing selling recycled water to the Edna Valley vintners. San Luis Obispo City
water, recycled or otherwise, should be solely for the use of San Luis Obispo City within the city limits.
The City has allowed an extreme amount of development in recent years and the new subdivisions are far from being built
out. We are in a drought. We have had past droughts with water restrictions and there will be droughts in the
future. Selling excess recycled water may seem like a good idea in the short run. But it is poor planning for the
future. Within the City, as infrastructure is added to areas not now served, more and more recycled water will be needed.
Selling the rights now establishes precedence and will be hard to stop in the future when the city will be able to use all its
recycled water within city limits.
Agriculture, vineyards included, need to be self-sufficient. If they don't have water on their own property, perhaps grapes
or other water-needy crops should not be grown. Perhaps the land should be returned to its previous use, which, for a lot
of Edna Valley, was low water-use crops, dry farming livestock feed, or grazing.
For the record, we have lived in the City in the same house for 49 years. Please reconsider the idea of selling our
water. Please consider the needs of the city for the long, long term and not the just the near future when something as
critical as water supply is being debated.
