The application of the Valley Electric for permit to install an Electric sign at 951 Higuera Street , granted on motion of W.S. Martin seconded by Geo. W. Kilbern. The report of the City Treasurer for the month of June was received and ordered filed on motion of James Piper seconded by W.B. Martin. On motion of W.B. Martin seconded by Geo. W. Kilbern the :merchandising Bond of Robert Hamilton was ordered cancelled and certified check ordered returned. On motion of W.B. Martin seconded by James Piper the applications of the Midland ^�. Counties Public Service Corporation for permit to remove and reset poles and install anchors the following locations were referred to the Commissioner of Public Works: On Osos and.Marsh and Osos and Yoro on Marsh Street. On Hathaway Avenue off Sycamore Street, and on Francis Avenue between South Broad Street and Victoria Street. It was moved by W.B. Martin seconded by Geo.. 77. Kilbern that the City Clerk ,advertise for bids for putting down a Well on Peter Boysen _place , bids to be called for as soon as to- ,sible. The motion carried. It was moved by Geo. `7'. Kilbern and seconded by W.B. Martin that the appointment of City otficers be laid over to the next meeting. Ayes : W.B. Martin., Geo. 71. Kilbern. Noes : James Piper , L.r'. Sinsheimer. Absent : H.A. Sinsheimer presiding. Present W.B. Martin, H.A. Gowman , Geo. W. Kilberm, James Piper ; L.F. Sinsheimer. The minutes of July 5th and 11th were read and on motion of James Piper seconded.by H.A. Gowman were approved as read. On motion of H.A. Gowman seconded by W.B. Ifiartin.permit was granted Sandercox Grocery for change in Store Front. The report of the City Clerk for the month of June was received and ordered filed on motion of H.A. Gowman seconded by W.B. Martin. ' A petition requesting the grading and graveling of Beach Street.between /�•a --�- Buchon and Pismo Street was , on motion of W.B. Martin seconded by James Piper, referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for additional signature. The application of Herrera Bros. for license for Soft Drinks, Cigars Sideline and Billiards and Pool was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report. 579 On motion of James Piper seconded by Geo. W. Kilbern the application of John C. Gibson for permit to build a concrete culvert 6 ft. by 4 ft. across property in Block 23 , was referred to the City Engineer foe investigation and report. On motion of James Piper seconded by Geo. W. Kilbern the Santa Maria Gas Co was permitted to open trench on Santa Rosa Street between Islay and Buchon Street , and on Buchon Street between Morro and Chorro Stre =t. . On motion of H.A. Gowman seconded by W.B. Ma.rtinthe following applications of the Mid. Co. Pub. Serv. Corp'n for permit to set poles and anchors were referred to the d� Commissioner of Public Forks : On Toro Street betw °en Pismo and Marsh Street. On Marsh Street between Essex and Ida Street and on GardenStreet between Marsh and Pismo Street. On motion of Geo: W. Kilbern seconded by James Piper the Midland Counties Public Service•,Corporation were also granted permit to remove guy wire -- Higuera Street between.Walker and ?harsh Street. It was moved by Geo. W. Kilbern and seconded by T.B. Martin, that until further notice , the use of water for sprinkling be absolutely prohibited. The motion carried and it was ordered that this become effective at once. \� On motion of H.A. Gowman seconded by W.B. r.4a.rtin , A.R. Smith and Antonio D. Motto were granted license for Garage and Taxicab , respectively. On motion of Geo. W. Kilbern seconded by W.B. Martin the following applications E of the Midland Counties Pub. Serv. Corporation for permit to remove and reset poles etc., were granted: On Toro Street between Buchon and Pacific Street ; On Essex Street between Higuera and Monterey Street ; On Buchon Street between Toro and Essex Street ; on Santa Roas Street between Leff and Pacific Street ; on Francis Avenue between South Broad and Victoria Street ; on Hathaway Ave. off Sycamore Street and on Osos and Marsh and Osos and Moro Street.on Marsh . On motion of James Piper seconded by W.E. Martin the application of C.A. Young- love for permit for 40 ft. sloping sidewalk on Broad street between Higuera and Marsh Street, was Lrranted as corrected. The claim of R.A. Rhodes in the amount of $ 51.90 was referred to the City Attorney f,-'r opinion as to its legality. The next matter taken up by the Council was the appointment of City Officers. For City Treasurer , J.C. James was nominated.by W.B. Martin seconded by Japes Piper and was unanimously elected. For City Collector , Mrs. Anna M. Lilley was nominated by W.B. Martin seconded by James Piper and unanimously elected. For Chief -of Fire Department , Joe Ghigliotti was nominated by H.A. Gowman seconded by James Piper and unanimously elected. For Chief of Police, W.F. Cook was placed in nomination by H.A. Gowman seconded by W.B. Martin and was unanimously elected. For City Attorney, W.T. Shipsey was nominated by James Piper seconded by W.B. Martin and ( unanimously elected. For Police Judge, R.W. Putnam was nominated by H.A. Gowman seconded by James Piper and unanimously elected. For City Engineer, W.B. Roselip was nominated by Geo. W. Kilbern seconded by W.B. Martin. Kenneth Beck was placed in nomination by James Piper.
