.III re service for Electric Sims erected by the Monday Club : -- Discussion.
It was moved by C.II.Carpenter and seconded by Chas Forbes that the Commissioner of
Supplies be directed to sign application for six hours - service per day for the said signs.
The motion carried.
There was discussion relative to the keeping of.stock on certain premises
within the dity and on motion of C.M.Carpenter,seoonded by Chas Forbes the matter was
referred to the City Attorney for invastigatioxi 'and further report to the Council..
On motion of C.M.Carpenter seconded by Chas Forbes the meeting adjourned to

On motion of C.M.Carpenter. seconded by H.E.Cox the Herald Publishing Company
was granted permission to install a temporary scaffolding-on top of the Herald Publishing
Companys building, to support a. Base Ball score Board, to be used in broadcasting the
returns of the World Series Base Ball Games
The.petitions of James G.Dimolus for permit to hang an Electric Sign (2 x 8 f
at 1012 Morro Street of J.I& Sullivan for a Flood Light sign at 718 Higuera.Street, and
of Mrs. Katie Haugh for two'Electric Signs on building at corner of Broad and -Marsh Streets
were referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report
on motion of H.E.Cox seconded by John Chapek.
On motion of John Chapek seconded by CoM.Carpenter the application of
A.H.Brazil for appointment as Police Judge was received and ordered filed .
The reports of the City Clerk and City Treasurer for the month of August
were received and ordered._filed.on motion of H.E.Cox seconded by John Ohapek.
Resolutions from the Methodist Episcopal Church, The Executive Board of the
Womans Christian Temperance Union and the Home Culture Club protesting the action of the
City Council in licensing a Circus for Sunday, October 3d.9 were received and ordered filed
on motion of Chas. Forbes seconded by John Chapek.
Communication received from E.W. Cason, Secretary of the Southern California
Hotle Men's Association, relative to :.the matter of an Ordinance governing the soliciting of
custom or patronage.on streets or other public places. Discussion. On motion of
Chas - Forbes seconded by John Chapek the City Clerk was directed to notify Hotel -Men of the
City to meet with the Council and present their views - relative to such matter.

On.favorabla report.and motion of C.M.Carpenter- seconded by H.E.Cox the
petition of Y. Watanabe for trensfer of license for Lodging House and Billiards and Pool
at 192 Higuera Street to G. Tanaka was granted.
Application of J.H.Logan for permit to remove a building from Lot 15 Block
133 Phillips Addition to Wly 45 ft of .Lot 3 Block 45 - was granted on motion of H.E.Cox
seconded py John Chapek.
The applications for the regular quarterly licenses were granted on.favorab,
report and motion of.C.M.Carpenter seconded by Chas Forbes.
Petition -of the.Southern.Pacific Company -for permit to close a portion of
Lorraine Terrace and a portion of-Boulevard.-del Campo -was again deferred for one week.
Request- of,the'County_Fair Association for permit to use certain Street
decorations owned by the City was granted on motion.of'C.M.Carpenter seconded by John C
On motion of H.E.Cox.seconded by Chas Forbes the Commissioner of- Public Heal
and Safety was authorized to employ an additional - Police Officer for a period of thirty
at the compensation of $ 125900 per month. .
On motion of H.E.COx- seconded by Chas :Forbes Commissioner of Supplies,
John Chapek,.was authorized and directed to purchase 250 feet of Fire Hose.
City Engineer L.W.Moore submitted a report on the estimated cost of making
preliminary survey, map etc., for proposed Ruth Street Subway.to be $ 175.00.
