Present : Chas Forbes, L.J.Defosset, H.E.Cox, John Chapek, L.F.Sinsheimer. Absent : None. The minutes of ldarch 19th and 26th were read and approved as read on motion of Chas Forbes seconded by H.E.Cox. The following applications for permit to build were granted on motion of H.E.Cox seconded by Chas Forbes with the provision that contractors named therein who have not already taken licenses for contracting, do so: W.A.Turner Residence lot 23 Caudill Tract Residence & Garage. R.R.Long - 65 ft full width sidewalk and curbing on the East side Garden Street between harsh Street and Pacific Street. George I Beek-with -50 ft 5 ft park sidewalk, curbing and gutter on the 11orth side Leff Street between Broad Street and Nipomo Street. Joseph T. Silva - 43 ft 5 ft park sidewalk, curbing and gutter on.the.;lorth side of Leff Street between 'road Street and Nipomo Street. W.C.LIartin 45 ft 5 ft park sidewalk and curbing on the east side of Carmel Street betwe ` High Street and Islay Street. On motion of H.E.Cox seconded by L.J.Defosset the above applications were granted , except t latter named, which was held pending the establishing- -.of street grades for the location named in the said application. The application of F.idarion Smith for sewer connection on Idarsh Street between Osos Street and Santa �'zosa Street was referred to the Commissioner of Public 'Works for report to the Council on motion duly seconded and carried. Application of irate E. Cramer for Sevier connection on High Street between Price Street and Cypress Street was granted on motion of H,E,Co$ seconded by John Chapek. Applicatipn of irlidland Counties Public Service Corporation No. 143 for certain work to be done on Peach Street between Santa Rosa Street and Osos Street was referred to the ssioner of Public Viorks for report to the Council on motion of .John Chapek seconded by L.J.Defosset. On motion of Chas 'Forbes seconded by John Chapek the following applications for license were referred to the Commmissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report to the Council : Mrs-Grace I.I.Idorris , Restaurant 1804 Osos Street ?I-F. Pinol, Restaurant , 846 Palm Street and Lodging House at 834 Palm Street ; Icy Glover , Boarding and Lodging House at 743 Buchon and E.S.Hamilton , Autotel -at 74 Higuera Street. �t, 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 27 The report of the City Collector for the month of parch, and those of the City Clerk and City Treasurer for the month of February were received and ordered filed on motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by Chas Forbes. On motion of Chas Forbes seconded by H.E.Cox the petition of E.L.Burriss for permit to hang an electric sign at Burriss Tire Co., 737 Llarsh Street , was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report to the Council. A petition was presented by F.D.Silvia, et.al., praying the.Council to grade and gravel a part of Kentucky Street and a part of 2d Street, in Hathi :.ay Addition, iaatter discussed. It vras moved by John Chapek and.seconded by L.J.Defosset and carried that the petition be referred to the Commissioner of Public Works. ",_::..The Commissioner to interview property owners concerned and endeavor to work out some solution relative to the matter. An application of Lary. A. O'Reilly for permit to build a Service Station, garages, cottages etc., as set forth in application on file, on Block 37 Phillips Syndicate.Addition was read. ;attorney S.V.Viright appeared for the petitioner. A petition from property owners in the immediate vicinity of the proposed Service Station, praying ;or the opening and maintaining of a Street on a certain 70 ft strip of land in controversy in connection therewi was presented and read. Matter discussed at length, and on motion of Chas iorbes seconded by John Chapek the application was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report to the Council. On motion of Chas Porbes seconded by L.J.Defosset the iderchandising Bond of F.W.Woolworth Co., secured by certified check in the amount of $ 200.00 was ordered cancelled and the certified check ordered returned, the principal having fulfilled obligation under the said Bond. The claim of A.E.Idallagh for $ 2.70 for refund of Tax paid on a part of lot " F " Block 138 Phillips Addition was referred without motion to the Commissioner of Finance and i:evenue for report to the Council. The petition of F. I::arion Smith for permit to remove approximately 16 ft of_ ling on Liarsh Street Bridge was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for report to Council on motion of John Chapek seconded by Chas Forbes. Claims against the City for the month of Karch were odered paid subject to the pproval of the heads of the respective departments , on motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by ohn Chapek. James Piper appeared and requested certain Street grades. Discussion followed elative to the establishment of street grades at certain places. On motion of H.E.Cox econded by L.J.Defosset the application of W.C.Liartin for permit to lay sidewalk and curbing the east side of Carmel Strk:et between High Street and Islay Street was granted. It was then moved by H.E.Cox and seconded by Chas Forbes that the City engineer have data (ready for the establishment of Street grades as outlined by the Council and present such data It the next meeting of the Council.. The motion carried. On motion of L.J,Defosset seconded by Chas Forbes it was ordered that the etition of L.W.Luchessa at al, relative to the opening and maintaining of Henderson Avenue et;:een 1:Iurray Avenue and Lonterey S-�reet be received and placed on file. It was then moved y L.J.Defosset and seconded by Chas Forbes that the petition presented be granted. The otion carried. The applications for the regular quarterly licenses were granted on motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by Chas Forbes.
