Forbes, L. J. Defosset, H. E. Cox, John Chapek. Absent : I;Iayov L. F. Sinsheimer. The minutes of =pril 6th, 9th and 13th were read and approved as read on motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by H. E. Cox. On motion of H. E. Cox seconded by L. J. Defosset the following appli.cat.ions for permit to build were granted: Harry J. Laird - Residence and Garage, part of lots 1 and 2, Block 42 Cost 13000.00 Hugh ':I. Wilcox - Residence and Garage, lot 10, I:Iount Pleasanton Square Cost 3700.00 L. "ary A. O'Reilly, - Auto Repair Shop, Block 37, Phillips Synd. Addition Cost 665.00 i The application of the Santa I:iaria Gas Company for permit to break pave,nent 2' x 4' to run 2 inch gas service into C. L. Sauer Building on Chorro Street between Ilarsh Street and Pacific Street was granted on motion of H. E. Cox seconded by John Chapel: with the provision that the work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer and that the street be put in its original condition. The application of Paul I:Icidabb for license for Soft Drinks at 311 Higuera Street was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report to the Council on motion of H. E. Cox seconded by John.Chapek. The application of the Valley Electric Company for permit to hang a 1,Teon Electric Sign on iron post on Honterey Street, approximately 75 feet from Essex Street for the linion•Oil Co., said sign to extend approximately 5 feet over side7alk, was received and referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report to the Council on .-notion of H. E. Cox seconded by John Chapek. Invitation of pupils of Room 10, Emerson School requesting the Council to attend exercises in the school auditorium, Tuesday evening, April 21st, 1931 at 7 :30 o'clock F.t,I., was ordered filed. The City Clerk. was directed to acknowledge invitation with thanks. N Application of I'rs. Olive Thomas (Southern Inn) for license for Bearding House at 547 iarsh Street was granted on motion,of L. J. Defosset seconded by r.. E. Cox. The application of .,Tadam Vonda for license for Palmistry was denied on motion of . J. Defosset seconded by H. E. Cox. In re application of Cline's Electric Shop for permit to install an electric sign at the corner of I:iarsh Street and Morro Street (Drive In I:Iarket): Commissioner of Public Health and Safety presented a letter from 0. A. England relative to said sign. Discussion. On motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by H. E. Cox the application was granted. The Council reservi ing the right to order said sign removed if at any time the same becomes objectionable. I The application of E. I:•_. Payne relativ- to cutting pavement for proposed sewer con- nection for John Lorton Building on Higuera Street between Chorro Street and Garden Street was again laid over. Application of the I:Iidland Counties Fublic Service Corporation Ito. 192 for certain work to be done upon Islay Street between Osos Street and Chorro Street as set out in application on file, was granted on motion of H. E. Cox seconded by L. J. J. Defosset seconded by John Chapek the petition was granted with the provision that the location of the signs and erection of same be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. The application of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company for permit to install poles upon Idission Street between Almond street and Chorro Street, Anholm Addition, was granted on motion of H. E. Cox seconded by L. J. Defosset. The application of Olive B. Martin for permit to connect with City sewer on Osos St., between Ivionterey Street and Eiguera Street was again continued until such time as all members of the Council are present. Application of H. C. Lnight for permit to lay 3 foot park sidewalk in the Dorton Addn was again laid over. The application of I-?rs. 15I. H. I: =ills for permit to lay curbing on the south side of High Street between Cypress Street and Beebee Street was again continued. City Engineer to present map and profiles in re street grades at that location. Applications of E. E. Burriss and C. D. Stowe for permit to install gasoline storage tanks were again continued. cancelled: On motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by H. E.
