On motion of H. E. Cox seconded by Chas. Forbes the application of H. C. Enight for
permit to lay 50 feet of 3 foot park sidewalk and curbing on the north side of lWoodbridge Stree
between Broad Street and Lawton Street, Norton Addition, was granted with the understanding tha
the 3 foot park sidewalk be widened to a 5 foot sidewalk at the pleasure of the Council.
The -natter of the application of E. E. Burriss for permit to install one 10,000 gallon
gasoline storage tank at Service Station, corner Garden Street and harsh Street, was again take
up, and, an motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by Chas. Forbes the application was granted with
the understanding that the installation comply with rules and regulations of the Board of Fire
Underwriters.
Application of C. D. Stowe for permit to install two 10,000 gallon gasoline storage
tanks under sidewalk area on French Street west of Higuera Street was again continued.
The application of The valley Electric Company for permit to hang a horizontal Neon
Electric Sign at the Union Oil Company's Service Station on Honterey Street at Essex Street,
was granted on motion.of L. J. Defosset seconded by H. E. Cox with the provision that the
installation of said sign comply with the provisions of the existing Ordinance and that the we
be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. I:Tayor L. F. Sinsheimer voted negatively.
As requested by the Council, the City Attorney reported that he had filed seven suits
against delinquents for the payment of licenses.
The matter of amendments to license Ordinance for the licensing of businesses not now
covered by such Ordinance was discussed and the City Attorney was directed to furnish the
Council with a draft of a tentative ordinance.
The matter of Building Code was continued to the next meeting.
On motion of Chas. Forbes seconded by H. E. Cox the meeting adjourned.

City Council met in regular session - 'Mayor L. F. Sinsheimer presiding.
Present: Chas. Forbes, L. J. Defosset,.E. E. Cox, John Chapek, L. F. Sinsheimer.
Absent : None
The minutes of April 20th and 27th were read and approved as read on motion of
Chas. Forbes seconded by L. J. Defosset.
On motion of H. E. Cox seconded by John Chapek the application of H. E. Palmer for
permit to build a residence on the rear of lot 1, Block 1749 Dallidet Addition, at a cost of
41,800.00 was granted.
The application of I:I. Lewin for permit to install stub sewer on Islay Street between
Eorro Street and Osos Street was granted on motion of H. E. Cox seconded by John Chapek.
The report of the Police Judge and Found I,:iaster for the month ending April 30th, 19319
was received and ordered filed on motion of Chas. Forbes seconded by L. J. Defosset.

A letter was.received from H. J. Coventry.of Tassajera Sanitarium, extending a dinner
invitation to the Council, at such date in the near future, as is convenient to the Honorable
Body. On motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by H. E. Cox the communication was received and
ordered filed, and the City Clerk was directed to acknowledge same.
Communication from Hamilton Bassett, on behalf of United Spanish ;jar Veterans, extending
an invitation to the Council to participate in the parade on I:Iemorial Day was received and
ordered placed on file. Clerk to acknowledge receipt of same.
Claims against the City for the month of April, 1931, *were ordered paid, on motion of
Chas. Forbes seconded by John Chapek, subject to the approval of the Heads of the respective
departments.
Dr. Loren Campbell and others appeared before the Council relative to conditioning
Iditchell Lot for use as a Twilight Recreation Field and requested the Council for financial aid
toward that end. The matter was discussed at 'Length and the Chair appointed Commissioner of
Finance and Revenue, Chas. Forbes, as -a committee of one, to meet with Dr. Campbell and the
organization at J. C. Hill °s Store on wednesday Evening, Lay 6th, 19319 at 7:30 Poll,
The application of T. J. Carleton for license for Skating Rink at the ;linter Garden was
ted on motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by H. E. Cox.
The application of E. E. Chaffee for permit to hang a sign at the Palm Lunch, 1819 Osos
s granted on motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by H. E. Cox with the provision that the said
ign be hung in accordance with Ordinance; as was also, the application of Borman Cooke for
ermit to hang a metal sign flush with the building at the Gainsborough Studio, 862 Higuera St.,
Relative to the application of Olive B. 11-artin for sewer service on Osos Street between
terey Street and I=iguera Street: The City Engineer presented ah estimate of cost and Plat
showing location of proposed sewer. After discussion, the matter was referred to the Com-
missioner of Public Florks, who was directed to confer with the applicant to ascertain whether
said applicant would contribute toward the expense of said proposed sewer, and report at the
next meeting of the Council.

The application of E. Id. Payne for permit to break pavement 2T x 42 on Higuera Street
between Chorro Street and Garden Street for the purpose of installing a sewer connection for
the John Norton Building was granted on motion of H. E. Cox seconded by John Chapek with the
provision that the work be done under the supervision of the City engineer.
The application of I:rs. W. H. Mills for permit to lay 70 feet of curbing on the south
side of High Street between Cypress Street and Beebee Street was again taken up. The City.
Engineer presented profile map showing proposed street grades. Discussion. The City Attorney
was directed to furnish the Council with an Ordinance establishing grades at the said location.
Application of the 11idland Counties Public Service Corporation No. 191 for permit to
do certain work on Chorro Street between :Monterey Street and Sycamore Street and on Palm Street
between Broad Street and I:Iorro Street was again continued pending the filing of blue print
showing proposed work.
It was moved by L. J. Defosset and seconded by H. E. Cox that the petition of
Joseph Leary relative to Relief for Police Officers' be received and placed on file for future
consideration by the Council.
The City Attorney reported relative to the filing of suits for certain unpaid licenses
and was directed by the Council to press said Suits.
