City Hall, Monday, September 17th. 1934 - 7 :30 poll.
City Council met in regular session - Vice President of the Council L.J.Defosse
presiding.
Present : J.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset, R.P.Howell, Joseph Leary.
Absent : Mayor L.F.Sinsheimer.
The minutes of September 4th and 11th were read and approved as read on moti
duly seconded and carried.
The foliow;ing application far permit to build was granted on motion of
J.B.?erke:neger seconded by R.P.Howell :
Queenie garden - Brick addition to present one Story Brick Stock Room Blk 10 Cost $1200.00
The Merchandising Bond of Babcock's Auto Supply Co. with Fred W, Wehrli as
Surety was approved and the Surety accepted on motion of R.p.Howell seconded by J.B.Berkeme
Petition of Board of Education by S.J.Lowe President, requesting that Ward Street
be closed between Sandersoek Street and Branch Street for reasons more particularly set ou
in said petition, was referred to the City Engineer, who was requested to furnish the
Council with sketch of the said location.
Applications for the regular quarterly licenses were received and referred to
the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report to the Council.
Protest of Duke's Idaster Bakery relative to license fee for outside Bakeries
doing business within the City of San Luis Obispo, as fixed by Ordinance Ito. 171(New Series
was before the Council. Uatter discussed and continued to the next meeting when local
Bakers are invited to be present to present their views.
Petition of J.17. Louk for permit to place a sign flush with building at 666
Higuera 6treet, granted on motion of J.B.Berke:aeyer seconded by R.P.Howell.
Petition of Board of Directors of the Christian Science Church for permit to
place two signs at intersection of Garden and Higuera zitreets continued to the next meet
Petition of Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co:apaiiy, under date of august 23rd.
934, was taken up and after discussion, it was the sense of the i;ouncil that the Telephone
'o:apany file new application in accordance with changes requested.
It was moved by Councilman Joseph B. 3erkemeyer, seconded by Councilman
oseph Leary and carried that : L.F.Sinsheimer, "yor of the City of San Luis Obispo,
tate of California, is vested with full authority to accept and agree to the conditions
s outlined in the or any application for a project under the State Emargency Relief
dministration in the State of California ( S E R A ). It was further moved by Council
man Joseph B.Berkemeyer, seconded by Councilman Joseph Leary and carried that a certified
copy of this resolution empowering and directing L.F.Sinsheimer, Mayor of the City of
San Luis Obispo,.State of California, to make and file a request for an S- E-R•A, project
shall ac ompany each application.
The applications of the Valley Electric Company for permit to hang a triangular
shaped Neon sign for Stag Billiard Parlor at 956 ';onterey Street, and also, a sign of the
same style and type at Chorro Cafe at 1032 Chorro Street were denied on motion of R.P.Howe
seconded by Joseph Leary.
':tatter of proposed installation of Electric overhead lights in anholm addition
was discussed. Clerk directed to request ;Iidland Counties Public Service Corporation
to make formal application for the installation of said proposed lights in accordance
with kap on file.
Matter of proposed Neon Signs for North and Sbuth Entrance to City continued to
the next meeting of the Council.
