City Hall, Monday, May 20th 1935 - 7 :30 P.M.
City Council met in regular session - Mayor L.F.Sinsheimer presiding.
Present : J.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset, R.P.Howell, Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer.
Lbsent : None.
The official Bonds of the newly elected Officers Iwayor L.F:Sinsheimer,
ouncilman L.J.Lefosset, Councilman Joseph B. Berkemeyer, and City Clerk Callie ICI. John
,ere presented. The City Attorney examined same and reported them in proper form.
'he respective bonds were then approved. The Council approving the Bond of the Mayor
nd the Mayor approving the Bonds of the respective Councilmen and the City Clerk. The
espective Officers having previously taken their Oaths of Office, the Council now
roceeded to organize as a new Council.
Councilman R.P.Howell nomina.ted Councilman L.J•Defosset for Vice President of
he Council. The nomination was seconded by Councilman J.B.Berkemeyer and upon roll call
ouncilman L.J.Defosset was unanimously elected, and so declared, Vice President of the
ouncil.
For Commissioner of Finance - Councilman L.J.Defosset nominated Councilman
.P.Howell . The nomination was seconded by Councilman J�;B.Berkemeyer :and upon roll ca
Councilman R.P.Howell was unanimously designated, and so declared, Commissioner of Finan
For Co.nnissioner of Supplies - Councilman L.J.befosset nominated Councilman
oseph Leary. The nomination was seconded by Councilman Joseph B. Berkemeyer and upon
oll call, Councilman Joseph Leary was unanimously elected, and so declared, Commissioner
applies.
For Commissioner of Public Health and Safety - Councilman J.B.Berkemeyer
nominated Councilman L.J.Defosset.. The nomination was seconded by Councilman R.P.Howell
and upon roll call Councilman L.J.Defosset was unanimously elected, and so declared,
Commissioner of Public Health and Safety.
For Commissioner of Public Norks - Councilman R.P.Howell nominated Councilman
Joseph B. Berkemeyer. The nomination was seconded by Councilman L.J.Defosset and upon
roll call Councilman Joseph B.Berkemeyer was unanimously elected, and so declared,
Commissioner of Public Works.
The Council now being.orgenized it proceeded to transact the regular business
before it.
The minutes of may 6th and 15th were read and approved as read.
The following applications for permit to build were granted on( motion of
r.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell subject to the approval of the Building Inspector :

On motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by g.p.Howell the following applications
or licenses were referred to the Commissioner of Public wealth and Safety for investigatic
ad report to the Councils T. Nakamure Hotel at 158 Higuera Street; J.H.League
Skating Rink at Winter Garden .
Application of Chas A. Kemp for license for Auctioneer at 669 Higuera Street
( Ferguson Furniture Company ) referred to the Commissioner of Finance with power to act,
)n :notion of J.B.Berke;neyer seconded by R.P.Howell.

The following applications for permit to connect with City Sewer were refer
to the Commissioner of Public :corks for investigation and report :
Emma. D. Brown - To connect with stub sewer on Pacific Street between Beach Street
and Carmel Street.
Karl H. Berry - To open trench to connect with Sewer on Broad Street between Christian
Avenue and Francis Street.
Petition of C.E. Rishell for permit to hang two metal signs for Standard Auto
Parts at.new location oorner ilionterey and Chorro Streets, referred to the Commissioner of
Public Health and hafety for investigation and report to the Council, on motion ddly
seconded and carried.
In a communication'Lrs. Yu.S.G.Harris expressed grateful thanks and commendation
of the members of the Fire Department for their prompt response and efficient work in
combatting a recent fire at her home, corner Morro and upham Streets, thereby saving the
building. Communication ordered placed on file.
Communication from.Fiests de las Flores Committee relative to the use of certa
Streets for parade to be held June 1st at 10 V olock A. ?,i. referred to the Commissioner of
Fublic Health and Safety for report..
Applications of Foster & Eleiser Co::ipany for permit to erect advertising sign
oards in Block 22 and in Block 23 - Higuera street between Osos and Santa r;osa streets -
1Igrented on favorable report and motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer.
Application-of 3.S.Shatford for Sewer connection on Lizzie Street laid over.
The following applications for permit to hang signs were granted with the
ovision that said sign be hung in accordance with the provisions of ordinance and under
he supervision of the amity :ngineer..:
The Talley Electric Gompany — Double faced Veon sign for Standard Auto Parts - Monterey
Street at Chorro Str::et.
nudolph's Electric - Double faced Neon sign for Associated Oil Company Service
Station J 402 Santa iosa and 1�onterey Streets.
Application of Hamburger - Orchard for license for Restaurant at 1015 Irlorro S
together with amount of money due for unpaid licenses, referred back to the Commissioner
Public Health and Safety and the Commissioner of Finance for adjustment, on motion of
Joseph Leary seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer.
Communication from Grace E. Arata, Agent, re insurance coverages read and
referred to the Commissioner of Finance.
On motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer the meeting adjourned to
Monday, ;Jey 27th 1935, at 7 :30 P.T'.T.
