City Hall, Monday, August 19th 1935 - 7 :30 Pal,
City Council met in regular session.-- In the absence of mayor L.F.Sinsheimer,
and Vice President of the Council L.J.Defosset . Commissioner of Public Works Joseph B. Be. emeyer
was duly and regularly elected to preside.
Present : J.B.Berkemeyer, R.P.Howell, Joseph Leary.
Absent : L.J.Defosset, Mayor L.F.Sinsheimer.
The minutes of august 5th and 12th were read and approved as read.
The applications, of Geo and Collice Portnoff and W.A.Brouillet for permit to
build were presented. It was moved by R.P.Howell and seconded by Joseph Teary that
the applications be granted subject to the approval of the Building Inspector. ':latter
discussed. ':lotion Put and declared lost Joseph Leary voting " No ". The said
applications to be brought up at the next meeting.
Application of Catherine Childs for per!nit to out pavement on iolill Street between
Ida Street and Johnson Street for purpose of repairing Sewer pipe, granted on motion of
R.P.Howell seconded by Joseph teary.
Application of uidland v'ounties Public service Corporation # 229 for permit to
do certain work on west side of Chorro Street between Pacific Street and Llarsh Street was
referred to the Commissioner of Public Works with power to act.
Petition of E.C.Schwsfel for permit to ramp curb and sidewalk for loft driveway
on Pacific Street between Beach Street and Carmel Street referred to the Commissioner of
Public Works for investigation and report.
On motion of R.P.Howell seconded by Joseph Leary the following applications, for
permit to hang signs were referred to the Commissioner of Public wealth and safety for ,
investigation and report to the Council:
The Valley-Electric Co - (1) Double face Neon Sign 18" x 32" for Jean's Jewelry Store,
.867 Monterey' Stree t.
(2) Double face Neon Sign 4' x 6' for ';Tercantile Acceptance
Corporation, 994 '2onterey Street.
Joe Blazel. - Lietal Sign 30" x 20, flush with building at 445 Higuera St...
for ?;Tart Rosenthal- Arrowhead and Puritas Water.
Rudolph's.Electric - (1) Single face Neon sign 21, x 2v x 12" for E.E.Long Piano Co
at 777 Matsh Street.
(2) Horizontal double fare 1Veon Sign 7' x 3' for Townsend Coffe
Shop at 850 Higuera Street.
(3) Double face lieon sign 12' x 2' z 12" for The Ford Garage,
at „Tonterey and Santa Rosa Streets,
Tentative Bids were submitted by the following Firms on'Public Liability and
Property Damage Insurance for City's Auto Fleet : L *"IN,Xamm . Ralph C. Kennedy ( 2 ),
John F. Hal•rington,1�aurice 14, Fitzgerald, L.T.Curtright, Evans' Brokerage Co ( Cecil G.
Evans, Ngr .) , Grace R. Arata and Myers Insurance Agcy( Russell E. Payers). The above
Bids were referred to the Commissioner of Finance and kevenue for report at the next meeti;
On motion of R.P.Howell seconded by Joseph Leary the following applications for
permit to hang signs were granted, with the provision that work be done in accordance with
Ordinance and under the supervision of the City Engineer
