On motion of J. -B. Berkemeyer, seconded by a. P. Howell and carried, rental for the precinct polling places within the City of San Luis Obispo was fixed at $8.00 each; rental for precinct polling places outside the City of San Luis Obispo was fixed at y,6.00 each. Re: compensation of Election Officers for General Municipal Election of April 5th, 1937: It was moved by R. P. Howell seconded by L. J. Defosset and carried, that election officers serving within the City of San Luis Obispo be compensated in the amount of $8.00 each for their services; that Election Officers serving in the special precincts outside the City of San Luis Obispo be allowed $7.00 each for their services. The Council, acting as a canvassing board, now proceeded to canvass and count the absentee vote for the General Municipal Election of April 5th, 1937: The identification envelope containing the ballot of Mary C. Rowan, bearing her signature, but not sworn to or acknowledged before an officer authorized to administer an oath, was examined by the Council and there being no challenge to such ballot, the same was declared a valid ballot by the following vote: Ayes: J.B. Berkemeyer, L.J. Defosset, L.F. Sinsheimer. Noes: R.P. Howell, Joseph Leary. Absent: None. The identification envelope containing the ballot of Teresa Soldavini, bearing her signature, but not sworn to or acknowledged before an officer authorized to administer an oath, was examined by the Council and there being no challenge to such ballot, the same was declared a valid ballot by the following vote: Ayes: J.B. Sinsheimer, having received the highest number of votes cast for I:Qayor at the General I:4unicipal Election held on the 5th day of April, 1937, be, and he is declared elected Llayor for the full term of two years, as prescribed by law; that, R.p.Howell and Joseph Leary, being the two persons receiving the highest number of votes cast for Councilman, were, and each of them was declared elected Councilmen for the full term of four years, as prescribed by law; that Fred C. Kimball and Roy E. Piicholson being the two persons receiving the highest number of votes cast for School Director, were and each of them was declared elected School Director for the full term of four years, as prescribed by law. City Clerk directed to issue Certificates of Election to the successful candidates. Application of Jessie E. Hughes for license for Lodging House at 1011 I:iorro Street granted on motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by R. P. Howell. Petition of J. B. Berkemeyer & Son for sewer connection on Higuera Street between Osos Street and Santa Rosa Street granted with the provision that work be done under the supervision of the City Engineet. Midland Counties Public Service Corporation application J,241 for certain viork on South Street between Broad Street and Beebee Street laid over. On motion of L.J. Defosset seconded by R.P. Howell the application of Schulze Bros for permit to hang a sign at 782 Higuera Street granted with the provision that work be done according to the provisions of Ordinance and under supervision of the City Engineer. 1 On motion of L.J.
