Present :'J.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset, R.P.Howell, Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer. Absent : None. The minutes of Larch 7th and 14th were read and approved as read. The following applications for permit to build were granted on motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell: Frank D.Silvia - Residence & Garage lot 9 Blk 2 Fi$ilini Tract Cost 39300.00 John D. Mace - Residence & Garage pt lot 3 Block 80 Cost 29000.00 Chas.L. Seeley, - Residence lots 17 & 18 Blk 201 Dallidet Cost, 49509.00 Arthur.H. Carpenter- Store Room lot 13 Blk 114 Hurray & Church Addn Cost 500.00 W.C.Long - Addition to Garage lot 8 Blk 172 Dallidet Addn Cost 150.00 On motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell the application of Byron Croav: for permit to build a residence Lot 3 Block 106 i,iission Vineyard Tract held over until such time as :'l.A.Turner, the contractor named therein,.takes a license for contracting. On motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by Joseph Leary the application of Darwin Brussow for permit to remodel residence Lot 9 & 10 Block 107 Murray & Church Addn - referred to the Commissioner of Public lVorks for investigation and report to'the Council. Application of III.H.Donelson for permit to build a residence and garage , Phillips Beebee Tract, referred to the Commissioner of Public works:,and'the Building Inspector report to the.Council. Seven applications of Foster & g]eiser Company for permit to Mace advertising _sign boards at various locations, particularly set out in said applications on file, were efore the Council. Said applications ordered referred to Commissioner of Public ealth and Safety for report. The Commissioner reported unfavorable and on his motion onded by Joseph Leary it was ordered that the said applications be rejected. Motion arried. Petition of L.B.I1flallory, for Montgomery hard Company, for permit to drill holes sidewalk area at Montgomery Ward Store, for the installation of Flag :Pole sookets grant motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell, work to be done-under the supervision the City Engineer. The following applications for permit'to hang Neon Signs were referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report to the Council Neon -Sales & Service( E.M.Andrez) - Neon Sign at Mom's & Pop's Cafe 662 riguera Street. Neon Sales & Service( ";.M.Andrez) - Neon Sign at Auto -Tel Court Lower Higuera Street. Applioation of Rundle's, Inc. for permit to hang a Neon Sign for Dr. T.A.Rose t 1231 Carden Street referred to the Commissioner of Public ?, ealth and Safety for nvestigation and report. DI 5 2J6 Petition of Union Oil Company for permit to renew telephone pole located on Monterey Street between Grove Street and Park Street for reason of failure of present pole, granted on motion of J.B. Berkemeyer seconded by R.P. Howell. Petition of The Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company for permit to relocate I, two poles at new service station of W.W. Mathews at 320 Higuera Street granted on favorable report and motion of J.B. Berkemeyer seconded by R.P. Howell. Communication received from M. Bonetti, Secretary San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce,xe:,marking parking spaces for cars on business streets: matter discussed, and on motion of R.P. Howell seconded by Joseph Leary it was ordered that the City Engineer and the Police Department submit plan and estimate of cost re same. The application of valley Glass Company for registration as Class "E" contractor together with Nexv_York casualty Company Bond in the amount of $500.00 and registration fee of $15.00 received and on motion of R.P. Howell seconded by J.B. Berkemeyer the surety was accepted, Bond approved and registration granted. The report of the City Clerk for the month of February 1938 received and ordered placed on file. Applications for the regular quarterly licenses were presented and referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report. W.C. Carpenter appeared with a new map of California Park Subdivision (said map correcting certain errors in original map filed.) and requested the Council to approve the said map. Matter discussed. It was moved by J.B. Berkemeyer seconded by R.P. Howell that the map presented by Mr. Carpenter be approved; that the Mayor and City Clerk be dire & authorized to sign same. The motion carried. Mayor L.F. Sinsheimer and.Joseph.Leary voting "No'?, Petition of Freeman Sign Service for permit to install Block Letter sign at Green Bros Store, Monterey Street, granted on motion duly seconded and carried- -work to be done under supervision of the City Engineer. .. Petition of Harley Gill for sewer connection on Ella Street-betwee.n George Stoee and Johnson Street granted. Work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. Petition of Patricia Dickson for transfer of license for Merchandise (Confect ec at D & D Fountain Lunch, 968 Monterey Street, to. Lillian A. and Ray Stillings.granted on favorable report and motion of L.J. Defosset seconded by J.B. Berkemeyer. Re: Sewer on Westerly extension of Sandercock Street: It was moved by J.B. Berkemeyer seconded by R.P. Howell and carried that a sewer main be installed on the westerly extension of Sandercock Street in accordance with plans and specifications of the City Engineer, and that the work be done under the City Engineer's supervision. The City Attorney was directed to advise the manager of D &•D Fountain Lunch relative to the provisions of Ordinance governing the sale of tobacco as a sideline-and also.the ordinance relative to the operation of cigarette vending machines.. On motion of L.J. Defosset seconded-by J.B. Berkemeyer the following licenses f were referred to the City.Attorney for collection: Y January qt 1938-: # 2014 - A.Spurgeon & P.Hicks Sign Painting 12:00 #2018 - S.B. Wilson Vending Machine 9.00 21.00 On motion•of L.J. Defosset seconded by Joseph Leary the City.Attorney was directed to file suit against The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company for amount due on oleomargarine licenses. The City Clerk was directed to write.Sountern Pacific Company relative to placing a flagman at the Marsh Street crossing of Southern Pacific railroad right of way$ and also relative to the blocking of traffic at Osos Street crossing. i 1 1 1 1
