L.J. Defosset seconded by J.B. Berkemeyer.
On motion of L.J. Defosset seconded by J.B. Berkemeyer the following
applications for permit to hang signs were granted with the provision that said signs
hang according to the provisions of Ordinance and work be done under supervision of the
City Engineer:

The Police Department granted further time on collection of unpaid licenses.
Re: Building Code. Matter discussed and continued to the next meeting.
On motion of J.B. Berkemever seconded by L.J. Defosset the meeting adjourned.

City Council met in regular session - ;Mayor L.F.Sinsheimer presiding.
Present - J.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset, R.P.Howell, Joseph Leary „ L.F.Sinsheimer.
Absent - None.
The minutes of March 21st and 28th were read and approved as read and corrected
The following applications for permit to build were granted on motion of
J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell:
H.J.Dubin - Garage part lot 11 Block 2 Arlington Addn Cost 100.00
D.B.Mazza - Double garage part lot 4 Block 3 Cost 75.00
The Merbhandisiag Bond of Coca -Cola Bottling Company ( Roy A. Clark ) secured by
Cashier's check in the amount of $ 200.00, for license for Merchandise Beverages, was
approved and the security accepted on motion of R.P.Howell seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer.
Application of H.J.Dubin for permit to lay 50 ft of 4J ft park sidewalk, curbing
and gutter on the south side of Murray Street between Hathway Avenue and Southern Pacific
railroad right -of -way was referred to the Commissioner of Public.Works for investigation
and report to the Council.
The applications of Santos Bros., by J.7V.Santos,•for licenses for Soft Drinks
and Cigars as a sideline at 1023 ?,,,F orro Street referred to the Commissioner of Public Health
and Safety for investigation and report on-motion duly seconded and carried.
The following notification of liquor license applications to State Board of

J.B.Berkemeyer same were received and ordered placed on file.
In a communication J.L.Toscano, Supervisor of Merced County, invited the Council
to attend a May Day Festival at Los Banos, April 29 -30 and ?day lst. Clerk directed to
acknowledge invitation with thanks. Commissioner R,.P.Howell designated to represent the
(Council at the Celebration.

The reports of the City Collector, Police Judge and the Pound Master for the month
ending March 31st. 1938 received and ordered placed on file. I

Letter received from J.J.Jordan, Division Superintendent Southern Pacific'Company,
in answer to a request by Council that a flagman be placed at Marsh Street crossing:
Mr Jordan stating that a traffic check does not warrant additional protection at this time.
Matter discussed and on motion of Joseph Leary seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer the Clerk was
directed to communicate with the General Manager of Southern Pacific Company re additional
protection at the said crossing , and also the matter of the blocking of traffic at Osos
street crossing.
On motion of R.P.Howell seconded by L.J.Defosset the following applications for
permit to connect with the City Sewer were referred to the Commissioner of Public Works
for investigation and report:
Geo James - Story Street between Sandercock Street and Brahch Street.
A.C.Brittain- Chorro Street between Broad Street and Upham Street.
Frank Silvia- Upham Street between Johnson Street and Fixilini Street.
Vrs.J.D.Mace- Toro Street between Montalban Street and Olive Street.
J.'W.Coleman — Johnson Street between Lizzie Street and Agnes Street.
A.H.McBride - High Street between Beebee Street and Cypress Street.
The following applications for registration as contractors were received and on 1
motion of R.P.Howell seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer,•the respective sureties were accepted,
bonds approved and registration granted :
Carl J. Chapek - Class " E " Contractor - United States Fidelity and Guaranty'Company
Bond 500.00 - Registration fee $ 15.00.
H.E.C1ark - Class ^E" Contractor - United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company
Bond $ 500.00 - Registration fee $ 15.00.
Petition of James Kuden et.al. requesting that steps be taken to remedy noxious
odors arising from sewage and the'burning of garbage at the City Sewer Farm referred to the
Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and-report to the Council.
Claims against the City for the month of March were ordered paid,'on motion of
R.P.Howell seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer, subject to the .approval of the heads of the
respective departments and the Mayor.
The claim of Harry E. Haskins, Sheriff, in the amount of $ 10.00 for Teletype
service furnished the City of San Luis Obispo from -7ebruary 10th to February 28th inc.,

as per agreement, was ordered paid on motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer-.

Claim of A.D..Vallace in the amount of $.140.00 for services as Radio Inspector
for the month of March 1938 ordered paid on motion of Joseph Leary seconded by R.P ".Howell.
Clerk directed!to draw warrant. Services of Mr Wallace to.continue for another month.
Re : claim of J.T.McCann in the amount of $ 8.00 for refund of filing fee for
building permit filed for Lena Welsher. It was moved by J.B.Berkemeyer that the claim'be
allowed. Ngotion lost for the lack of a second.
Re : claim of Theo. M. Maino in the amount of $ 12.00 for refund of filing fee
for building permit filed for G.A.Rossi. It was moved by R.P.Howell that the claim be .
allowed. Motion lost for the lack of a second. Clerk to bring opinion of the City
attorney at the next meeting regarding the above matters.
Re : use of settled sewage from City of San Luis Obispo for irrigation of lands
adjacent to City Sewer Farm: City of San Luis Obispo to make application to the.State
Board of Health for permit for such use. City Attorney to draw Resolution to accompany
such application. Ydatter laid over to the next meeting.

Re: matter of revised Building Code: Kenneth Beck, Building Inspector, explains
provisions.on new Code and advises adoption. City Attorney to draw necessary Ordinance.
Representative of Foster & Kleiser Company requested reconsideration of certain
applications for sign boards, which said application:. were rejected by the Council
March 21, 1938. Petitioner advised that new applications could be filed.
S.B.Wilson appeared re licenses for Cigarette Vending Machines and Tobacco as
,
a sideline. Matter discussed. It was ruled that the two licenses were separate
and distinct and that licenses stand.
