The minutes of October 3rd, 6th, 10th-and 14th were read and approved as read.
(Groceries) at 1371 Monterey Street to Netta W.. Raby referred to the Commissioner of
Public Health and Safety for report to the Council.
The following application for permit to lay sidewalk and curbing were re-
ferred on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by L. J. Defosset, to the Commissioner of
Public Works for investigation and report to the Council:.
Carl L. Schulze - 155 feet curbing and 195 -feet of 6 feet park sidewalk at corner of
Islay and Nipomo Street, Lots 11- 12 -13, Block 93.Murray and Church Addn.
Mary S. Fredericks Est: - To repair sidewalk at the corner of Chorro and Monterey
Street - Block 10.
The petitions of H. J. Bello-for permit to recess curb for a. distance of 60 ft:
on East side of Broad Street between Marsh-Street and Pacific - Street and ramp sidewalk
for width of 6 ft. also, to convert present gas light- standard into an electric light -
standard and erect one additional electric light- standard of similar type were referred,
on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by L. J. Defosset, to the Commissioner of Public
Works for investigation and report.
The report of the City Clergy; for the month of September, 1938 received and
ordered placed on file.
Application of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. for permit to replace a
pole on Higuera Street at the Corner of Grove Street referred to the Commissioner of
Public Works for investigation and report to the Council; on motion duly seconded and
carried.

The following matters were referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for
investigation and report:

Signal Oil Co. -
To connect with sewer on Cypress Street between Sandercock Street
and Branch Street.
To cut 10 ft x 20 inches of pavement in order to renew sewer on
Toro Street between Monterey Street and Higuera Street.
Petition of Standard Oil Company, by E. D. Taylor, for permit to pave yard
at Standard Oil Station at South and Higuera Street, also to lay black pavement on a
portion of South Street adjoining said yard, referred to the City Engineer for.in-
vestigation and report, on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell.
Communication received from Grace Woodruff,..Secretary, Channel Counties
Regional League, giving notice of meeting of the League to be held at Santa Maria Club
in Santa_ Maria Wednesday, October 26, received. Clerk directed to acknowledge receipt
of communication, stating that as many as could, would attend, from this City.
Petition of H. W. Rudolph for permit to remove a gasoline storage tank from
166 Cho.rro Street to 681 Howard Street and install same underground was granted, on
motion of L. J. Defosset, seconded by J. B. Berkemeyer, with the provision that work
be.done under the supervision of the City Engineer, and in accordance with specifi-
cations of Board of -Fire Underwriters.
Re: petition of L. T. Hildebrand et al in relation to a certain culvert
or drain in Block 174, Dallidet Addition: City Engineer filed written report. Both
petition and report of Engineer ordered placed on ffle for future reference.
Petition of 71. L. Ramage for permit to connect with sewer on High Street
between Hutton Street and King Street granted, work to be done under supervision of
the City Engineer.
On favorable report and motion of L. J. Defosset, seconded by J. B. Berkemeyer,
the following applications . for permit to hang signs were granted with the provision that
the work be_done, °under the- -supervision of the City Engineer and according to the pro-
visions of Ordinance:
Rundles. Inc. - Neon sign for Lillian A. Stillings at R & L Cafe, 968 Monterey St.
Neon sign for R. C. Horton "E1 Camimo Liquor Store" at 960
Monterey Street.
Application of Mrs. J. R. McClure for permit to lay 50 ft. of 6ft. park
sidewalk on west side of Chorro Street between Leff Street and Islay Street granted
with the provision that type of walk laid conform to other sidewalk in block and that
work be done under superivsion of the City Engineer.
Matter of Electrical Code discussed. City Attorney to furnish Council with
draft of Ordinance at next meeting.
On motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by_L. J. Defosset, the meeting ad-
