City Council met in adjourned session - P,?avor L. F. Sinsheimer presiding.

Absent: None
The following applications for permit to build were granted:
J. Hollinger - Residence and garage, Lot 6, Blk 9, Anholm Addn. Cost 4,500.00
John & Flora Romero - Residence and garage, pt lot 10, blk 152,
Harford Addition Cost 2,500.00
Hyrum F. Larsen - Residence and garage,-pt lot 11, blkl5l,
Harford Addition, Cost 3,000.00
Margery Vaught - Double Garage, lot 12, blk 107, M & C Addition, Cost 175.00
The following merchandising Bonds were approved, sureties accepted and
license ordered. issued:
Edward Blusch - Surety F. C. Kimball;
Paul J. Hernandez - Surety Cashier's Check $200.00
The Merchandising Bond of 1. B. Trueman, doing business as Seven Up
Bottling Company, with '- Aaryland Casualty Company as Surety in the amount of $200.00
was ordered cancelled, the principal having fulfilled obligation under said Bond.
On motion of R. F. Howell, seconded by J. B: Berkemeyer, the following
applications for sidewalk permits were referred to the Commissioner of Public Works
and the City Engineer for investigation and report:
Charles E. Chaffin - To lay 50 ft. of 5 ft park sidewalk on east side of Nipomo
Street between Islay Street and Leff Street.
Eric Wickenden - To replace 64 sq. ft. of sidewalk on east side Chorro Street
between Higuera Street and Monterey Street.
J. L. Anderson - To replace 90 sc. ft. of sidewalk at Anderson Hotel, Monterey
and Morro Streets.
The report of the City Treasurer for the month of September 1938 received
and ordered placed on file.
On motion duly seconded and carried, the following applications for regis-
tration as Contractors were received, sureties accepted, bonds approved and regis -:
tration granted:
James A. Quaglino - Class "E" Contractor Hartford Accident and Indemnity
Company. Bond $500; Registration fee $15.00.
Edward H. Scott - Class "E^ Contractor - U. S. Fidelity & Guaranty Company,
Bond $500; Registration fee $15.00.
Communication received from San Luis Obispo Post No. 66 American Legion
relative to observance of Armistice Day. Letter ordered filed. Matter to be presented
at next meeting.
Communication and outline of proposed program for celebration of official
opening of Highway #101 over Cuesta received from Secretary of Committee, Clarence
Rigdon. Matter discussed. Commissioner Howell directed to contact decoration com-
mittee and report to Council at next meeting.
Matter of bids on Public Fire Alarm System submitted October 19th were
again taken up. Fred Muff appeared relative to the bid of The Valley Electric Company.
Matter discussed and it was moved by R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary and
carried that the matter be deferred for future decision.
Petition of Standard Oil Company for permit to pave yard and a portion of
South Street adjoining said yard laid over for report from City Engineer.

Petition of Signal Oil Company for permit to cut pavement on Toro Street
between Monterey Street and Higuera Street to renew sewer, granted with the provision
that work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer.
Application of John Hemstreet for permit to connect with sewer on Cypress
between Sandercock Street and Branch Street granted, on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer,
seconded by R. P. Howell; work under supervision of City Engineer.
The petition of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company for permit to
replace a 35 ft. pole with a 35 ft pole on Higuera Street at the corner of .Grove Street
granted on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell with the provision that
clearance be not less than that.given by old pole.
Applications of H. J. Bello for permit to recess curb and ramp sidewalk,
also, to install light- standards on east side of Broad Street between Marsh Street and
Pacific Street laid over.
Application of Mary S. Fredericks Estate by J. Harrington, for permit to
repair sidewalk..at: the south west corner'of"Monterey and Chorro Streets granted, with
the provision that work be done under supervision of the City Engineer, as was also,
the application of Carl L. Schulze for permit to lay sidewalk and curbing at Islay
and Nipomo Streets, Block 93.
Petition of Mrs. L. A. Gragg for transfer of license for Merchandise
(Groceries) at 1371 Monterey Street to Mrs. Netta W. Rab,y granted on motion of L. J.
Defosset, seconded.by R. P. Howell.
Ordinance No. 188 ( New Series) an Ordinanoecreating the office of Chief
Electrical Inspector; adopting by reference the "Uniform Electrical Code "; providing
for the issuance of permits and the collections of fees therefor; and providing penal-
ties for -the violation thereof, was introduced and passed to print, on motion of J. B.
Berkemeyer, secondedby R. P. Howell by the following vote:

Absent: None
On motion of L. J. Defosset, seconded by J. B. Berkemeyer, the:meeting
