The following application for permit to lay sidewalk and curbing were re-
ferred to the Commissioner of Public -Works for investig --tion and report to.Council:
L. C. Bell - To repair sidewalk north side Marsh Street between
Morro Street and Chorro Street.
A. M. Tripp - To recess curb for driveway east side of Nipomo Street
between Monterey Street and Palm Street,
Charlotte Hamlin.- 50 ft. 5 ft. park sidewalk and curbing east side Chorro
Street between Mountain View Street and Lincoln Street.
In the matter of the application of Charlotte Hamlin for permit to lay
curbing on the south side of Mountain View Street between Lincoln Street and Chorro
Street: there being no graae established, it was ordered, on motion of R. P. Howell,
seconded by J. B. Berkemeyer, that the City Engineer be directed to establish grade
at the said location.
Application of Neon Sales.& Service for permit to hang a Neon Sign at 1175-
Monterey Street for R. C. Bird Auto Hospital, and the application of Steve Zegar for
permit to hang a Neon Sign at 1044 Monterey Street were referred, on motion of J. E.
Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell, to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety
for investigation and report to the Council.

Application of Union Hardware & P1umb.ing.Company for permit to out pave-
ment on Palle Street between Nipomo Street and ... North-Broad Street, to repair sewer at
633 Palm Street, referred to the Commissioner of Public Works with power to act.
Application of Union Hardware & Plumbing Company for permit to cut pave-
ment on Monterey Street between Santa Rosa Street and Osos Street for sewer connection
to Sam Adler's Sandwich Shop, referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for investi-
gation and report, as was also the application of Santa Maria Gas Company for permit
to lay a 3" gas main on Morro Street between Pacific Street and Marsh Street.
Petition of E. D. Berry for permit to open trench on South Broad Street
to locate water and sewer line for lot 3, block 4, Imperial Addition, referred to the
City Engineer, on motion of J. B..Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell.
Application of Frank Polansky, for registration'as Class "E" Contractor,
together with U. S. Fidelity and Guaranty Company Bond in the amount of $500.00 and
registration fee of $15.00 received, and'on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by L. J.
Defosset, it was ordered that Surety be accepted, bond approved and registration
granted.
The reports of the City Collector, the Police Judge and the Pound Taster
for,.the month of January, 1939, and the report of the City Treasurer for the month of
December, 1938 were received and ordered placed on file.
On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by L. J. Defosset, it was ordered
that the Policy with the State Compensation Insurance Fund covering City Employees
be renewed as of February 7, 1939, and that the Clerk draw warrant in the amount of
$250.00 deposit premium. The motion carried.
Communication from Wm. Wagnon, Jr., Special Events Department, Golden
Gate International Exposition, re: arrangement for "City Day ", at the Exposition,
referred to Commissioner R. P. Howell, for report to Council.
Communication received from Mrs. Martha'Feliz relative to a certain
accident at intersection of Garden and Buchon Streets, October 12th, 1938, involving
her automobile and a City -owned truck, in which communication it was requested that
the petitioner be compensated for damage and outlay. Matter discussed and it was
moved by J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell, and carried, that the matter be
referred to the Insurance Company carrying the City's insurance.
Claims against the City for the month of January 1939 were ordered paid,
on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by L. J. Defosset, subject to the approval of the
heads of the respective departments and the Mayor.
Applications of San Luis Obispo City Schools (by E.D. Dunning) for permit
to do certain sidewalk work at the various shcools within the City in accordance with

and as particularly set out in the various applications on file, were granted on favor-
able report and motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell, -work to be done
under supervision of the City Engineer.'

Street denied on motion of L. J. Defosset, seconded by J. B. Berkemeyer.
Petition of M. Lopez for permit to connect with sewer on Buchon Street
between Essex Street and Southern Pacific Company's right -of -way granted, work to be
done under supervision of the City Engineer.
Re•'petition of Earl M. Bernard for permit to install reinforced concrete
culvert across southwesterly corner of lot 10 of the Deleissigues Tract:_
It was moved by J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell and carried that the petition
be granted with the provision that an opening be made in the top of said culvert so
as to take care of the drainage along the curb line of the Street. ,Mork to be done
