Re: report of City Engineer, relative to Street grade on southerly side
of Pismo Street between Beach Street and Carmel Street: Matter discussed, and it was
ordered that the City Engineer be instructed and directed to prepare a tentative
grade for consideration by the Council.
Clerk directed to order 10 copies of Standard Plumbing Code from Pacific
Coast Plumbing Inspectors. Association.
Re: Parking of Automobiles: It was moved by R. P. Howell, seconded by
J. B. Berkemeyer and carried, that the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety and the
Commissioner of Public Works be authorized and directed to have Higuera Street between
Garden Street and. Chorro, marked in accordance with blue print presented, for parking
purposes.
Ordinance No. 190 (New Series) An Ordinance changing the official curb
grades of a portion of Lizzie and Figlini Streets was introduced and passed to print
on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by L. J. Defosset by the following vote:
Ayes: J.B. Berkemeyer, L. J. Defosset, R. P. Howell, Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer.
Noes: None
Absent None
Re: Zoning: City Attorney to furnish each member of Council with a copy
of a tentative Ordinance.
Unfinished matters continued.
On motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by L. J. Defosset, the meeting
adjourned to Tuesday, February 14th, 1939, at 7:30 P. M.

The applications of W. M. Long for licenses for Restaurant, Cigars Side-
line and Soft Drinks at 993- 995.Higuera Street were referred to the Commissioner of
Public Health and Safety for investigation and report to the Council.

The Merchandising Bond.of Ho.1t.Brothers..secured by Certified Check in the
amount of $200.00 received, and on motion of.R..,P...Howell.,...seconded by J. B. Berkemeyer,
surety was accepted, bond approved and license ordered issued.
The following applications for permit to hang signs were referred to the
Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report:
Freeman Sigia Service - Identification sign at Christine's, 787 Higuera Street
Arrowhead & Puritas Water Inca - Wood & Metal Sign, 883 Palm Street
Valley Electric Co. Two double face-Neon Signs 120 Higuera Street
(for Dick Bird Garage)
Application of San Joaquin Power Div.ision,.Pacific Gas and Electric
Company for permit to replace a 30' pole with a 35' pole on Mountain View Street,
between Chorro Street and Lincoln Street referred to the Commissioner of Public Works
for report to the Council.
Application of Santa Maria Gas Company for permit to break pavement on
Higuera Street between Nipomo Street and Broad Street for purpose of repairing gas
leak granted on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell with provision
that work be done under supervision of the City Engineer,
Ordinance No. 190 (New Series) An Ordinance changing the official curb
grades of a portion of Lizzie and Fixlini Streets was finally passed on motion of
J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell by the following vote:
Ayes: J. B. Berkemeyer, L. J. Defosset, R.P. Howell, Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer

Application of F. S. Harper for license for Shooting Gallery at 955 Higuera
Street denied oh motion of L. J. Defosset, seconded by J. B. Berkemeyer,
A Committee representing the Brotherhood of Locomotive. Engineers appeared
before the Council and requested that the City designate April 14th, 1939 as "City
of San Luis Obispo Day" at the Golden Gate International Exposition - the day fixed
for the Brotherhood; that the festivities of the day be in conjunction with those
held by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers: Matter discussed, and it was moved
by'R. P. Howell, seconded by L. J. Defosset and carried that the Cler4 write
;1Tm.'Wagnon, Jr., Special Events Department, of Golden Gate International Exposition
to inquire whether such an arrangement would be agreeable to the management of that
Department.
Application of Balconades Ballroom (by Al Guerra) for license for Dance
Hall at 977 Higuera Street granted on motion of L. J. Defosset, seconded by J. B.
Berkemeyer.
Application of Mrs. Howard Williamson for license for Mdse. (Confectionery,
Lunch, Soft Drinks, etc.) at 895 Hi .auera Street, granted.
Application of L. C. Bell for permit to repair sidewalk on Marsh Street,
between Morro Street and Chorro Street, and the application of A. M. Tripp for permit
to recess curb for driveway on Nipomo Street between Monterey and Palm Streets granted,
on motion duly seconded and carried,- work to be done under supervision of the City
Engineer.
Petition of Charlotte Hamlin for permit to lay 50 ft. of 5 ft. park side-
walk and curbing on the east side of Chorro Street, between Mountain View Street and
Lincoln Street granted on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by L. J..Defosset,
work to be done under supervision of the City Engineer.

City Engineer reported on curb grade elevation-on Mountain View Street between
Chorro Street.and Lincoln Street. Matter discussed, and on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer,
seconded by Joseph Leary, the City Attorney was requested and directed to prepare an
Ordinance for graded in accordance with the City Er ;i.neer's report.
Application of Charlotte Hamlin for permit to lay 100 ft. of curbing on the
south side of Mountain View-Street between Chorro Street and Lincoln Street granted
on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by L. J. Defosset: work to be-done on the legal -
establishment of grade and under supervision of the City Engineer.
On motion duly seconded and carried, the application of Steve Zegar for
permit to hang a Neon Sign at 1044 Monterey Street was granted, work to be done under
provisions of Ordinance and supervision of the City Engineer.
Petition of Union Hardware & Plumbing Company for permit to cut pavement
on Monterey Street between Santa Rosa Street and Osos Street for sewer connection to
Sam Adler Sandwich Shop granted - work to be supervised by City Engineer.
Santa Maria Gas Company petitioned the Council for permit to lay a 3' gas
main on Morro Street between Pacific Street and Marsh Street, which said petition was
granted with the provision thatvork be done under the supervision of the City Engineer.
Re: report of City Engineer on tentative curb grade on southerly side of
Pismo Street between Beach Street and Carmel Street: Matter discussed and put over to
the next meeting.
Petition of Neon Sales and Service for permit to hang a Neon Sign at 1175
Monterey Street for R. C. Bird Auto Hospital granted on motion of L. J. Defosset,
seconded by J. B..Berkemeyer with the provision that work be done under supervision
of the City Engineer and in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance.
Application of San Joaquin Power Division of Pacific Gas and Electric Co.
No. 250 for permit to do certain pole work on Fletcher Street between Santa Barbara
Ave. and Emily Street to eliminate the use of both sides of Fletcher Street for pole
lines was granted on motion of J. B.Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell.
Clerk to write Southern Pacific Company re: Munoz Street under pass.
On motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by L. J. Defosset, the meeting
adjourned.
