City Council met in adjourned session - Mayor L. F. Sinsheimer presiding.
Present: J. B. Berkemeyer, L. J. Defosset, R.P. Howell, Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer.
Absent: None
The Council proceeded with further'.--arrangements for Municipal Election to
be held April 3, 1939.
On motion of L. J. Defosset, seconded by Joseph Leary the meeting adjourned
to Monday, March 13th, 1939, at 7 :30 P. M.

The City Council met in adjourned session - Mayor. L. F. Sinsheimer presiding.
Present: J. B. Berkemeyer, L. J. Defosset, R. P. Howell, Joseph Leary, L. F.Sinsheimer.
Absent: None
The following application for permit to build was granted:
E. D. Berry - Residence, lot 3, block 4, Imperial Addn. Cost 700.00
Applications of Mrs. Grace P. O'Lano for licenses for Lodging House and
Boarding House at 964 Chorro Street were referred to the Commissioner of Public Health
and Safety for investigation and report to the Council, on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer,
seconded by Joseph Leary, as was also the application of Mrs. O'Lano for permit to
hand a sign at 964 Chorro Street.
Applications of Ellen Perry, D. F. Brussow, F. G. Anderson and G. A. Rossi
for permit to recess curb and ramp sidewalk for driveways on Morro Street between
Pacific Street and Islay Street, at various locations set out in application on file'
were referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for investigation and report to the
Council on motion duly seconded. and carried.
The application of John Enos for permit to recess curb for distance of
12 feet and ramp sidewalk for driveway on the north side of Buchon Street between
Garden Street and Chorro Street was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for
investigation and report on motion of L. J. Defosset, seconded by Joseph Leary.
The application of Santa Maria Gas Co. for permit to break pavement
2 x 4 feet on Marsh Street between Broad Street and Nipomo Street to install gas
service to.J. G. Jones Building referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for
investigation and report to the Council, on motion duly seconded and carried.

The report of the Police Judge for.the month of February, 1939, received
and was ordered placed on file.
Application of J. R. Rone for registration for Class "D" Contractor, to-
Igether with TJ. S. Fidelity and Guaranty Co. bond in.the amount of $1000.00 and reeis-
tration fee of $25.00 received and on motion of L. J. Defosset, seconded by J. B.
Berkemeyer, it was ordered that the bond be approved and registration granted.
The applications of Foster & Kleiser Co. for permit to construct sign boards
at various locations in the City, more particularly set out in applications on file
dated March 13, 1939 were referred, on motion of J.B. Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P.
Howell to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report
to the Council.
Re: Street Grade on Pismo Street between Beach Street and Carmel Street:
Report of City Engineer read. Discussion. It was moved by J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded
by R. P. uowell that the City Attorney consult with the City Engineer looking toward
proceedings re: Change of grade on Pismo Street. Motion carried.
On favorable report and motion of L. J. Defosset, seconded by J.B. Berkemeyer,
the following application for licenses were granted:
M. Garcia - Restaurant , 846 Palm Street
M. GArc a - Soft Drinks, 846 Palm Street
The application of Jessie Darrah for permit to construct 40 feet of 5 ft,
park sidewalk on the east side of Chorro Street between Leff Street and Islay Street
granted on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by L. J. Defosset, with the provision
that work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer.
The petition of 71. VT. Adams for permit to construct 56 ft. of fence, 6 ft.
in height at his premises, Fixlini and Lizzie Streets, was granted on favorable report
of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by L. J. Defosset with the proviso that in case of
necessity the fence. be lowered in height or removed.
The application of Yeon Sales and Service for permit to hang a horizontal
double faced neon sign at "S & U Market" at 156 Higuera Street granted on motion of
L. J.- Defosset, seconded by J. B. Berkemeyer with the. proviso that the work be done in
accordance with the provisions of ordinance and under the•supervisien of the City
Engineer.
The petition of J. J. O'Sullivan Co. for permit to move a double faced neon
sign from 723 'Riguera Street to 741 Higuera Street, O'Sullivsn Shoe Store, was granted.
'.Mork to be done according to Ordinance and under the supervision of the City Engineer.
Application of Jerome Piccardo for permit to cut pavement 2' x 32' on
Monterey Street between Pndrews Street and the City Limits in order to run sewer service
for new residence was again taken up. After discussion it was moved by J. B. Berkemeyer,
seconded by R. P. Howell, that the matter be referred to the City Engineer for advice
in-refe.renee to permitting sewer line from adjoining property to be laid in same trench
in order to avoid cutting pavement at two locatinns.
The .!natter of the petition of Tony Machado requesting that a certain hydrant
at 280 Higuera Street be removed to some otber location was laid over for report from
the City Engineer,
Re: Notification of the State Board of Equalization regarding application
of M. Garcia for license for "On Sale Beer and Wine" at 846 Palm Street:
Chief of Police reported on said application and on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded
by L. J. Defosset, same was received and ordered placed on file. The matter was further
discussed and it was moved by L. J. Defosset seconded by Joseph Leary and carried, that
the City Attorney preparenecessary papers protesting the issuance of a license by the
State Board of Equalization 'gyp M.Garcia at 846 Palm Street.

The matter of proposed establishment of Street Grade on Hathway Avenue
between Murray Avenue and Toro Street was laid over pending further report by the City
Engineer.
Matters in connection with-the approaching City-Election were further
considered.
The following petitions of norninations of candidates for the respective
offices to be voted on at the General Municipal Election and Consolidated Bond Election
to be held in the City of San Luis Obispo on Monday, April 3rd, 1939, were presented to
the Council and ordered placed on file.

The matter of the Election Proclamation for the General Municipal Election
and Consolidated Bond Election to be held in the City of San Luis Obispo on Monday,
April 3rd, 1939, was now taken up. Election Precinct Polling Places were officially
designated, Election Officers were appointed and it was moved by J. B. Berkemeyer,
seconded by L. J. Defosset, that the Election Proclamation be adopted. The said Pro-

clamation was adopted by the following vote:
