Howell, Joseph Leary, L.Y. Sinsheimer. Absent: None. In response to request of the Council, VJ.S. Dolliver, assistant engineer of the Division of Highways, was present to discuss the matter of highway routing through the City and also designating streets of major importance. Following discussion the City Attorney was directed to furnish the Council with Resolution. On motion of L.J. Defosset, seconded by J.B. Berkemeyer the meeting adjourned. Howell,.Joseph Leary, L. F..Sinsheimer Absent: L. J. Defosset The minutes of April 17th, 20th, 24th, 27th and 28th were read and approved as corrected. The following applications for permit to build were granted: G.B. & Edna :Stapp - Residence and garage, lot 3. Block 118, M & C. Addition, Cost 3800.00 Edward Chappell - Storeroom, lot 6. Block 152,Harford Addn., Cost 250.00 Sylvia DeBrish - Interior Imp.- basement, pt. lot 29 Blk 41, Cost 400..00 Geo. D. Madison - Interior alterations, Blk 909 Cost 300.00 The application of Benj. F. Loveall for permit to move a residence from lot 7, Block 87, Mission Vineyard Tract to southerly 50 ft. of Lots 1 and 2, Blk 6, South side Addition granted, on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell. Merchandising Bond of the West Coast Stationery and Printing Co. (F.'r1.Lucas' with certified *check of $200.00 and surety was approved and license ordered issued. The application of L. C. Henderson for permit to remove 40 ft. of bituminous sidewalk and replace same with concrete sidewalk, on the north side of Buchbn Street between Morro and Chorro Streets was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for report to the Council. Application of the Neon Sales and Service, by E. M..pndrea for permit to install a neon sign for Tegaco'Service Station at 311 Fiiguera Street referred to the Com- missinner of Public Health and Safety for report to the Council. Application of J. F. Harrington, by Archie A. Cheda, for permit to break pave- went on Palm Street between Chorro and Broad Streets for the purpose of cleaning sewer was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for report. The Official Bond of Margaret L. Meek as City Collector was presented and on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by J. B. Berkemeyer, the same was approved by the Council. W M4 ' A petition was received from A. M. Pettenger, 589 Higuera Street and.others, requesting.that automobile parking zone be extended on Higuera Street from Nipomo Street to and including 553 Higuera Street - The Mission Wrecking Co. Matter referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and•Safety for report to the Council. Report of the City Treasurer for the month of March and those of the City Collector, Folice Judge and the Pound Master for the month of April were received and ordered placed on file on motion duly seconded and carried. The application of Alton Gingg for employment was received and placed on file for future reference.. Claims against the City for the month of April, 1939 were ordered paid on motion of R.F. Howell, seconded by T.B..Berkemeyer, subject to the approval of the heads of the respective departments and. the Mayor. Re: Claim of the Gamewell Co. for Public Emergency Alarm System: It was moved by J. P. Berkemeyer, seconded by Joseph Leary that claim of the Gamewell Company in the amount of $1,99. 5.40 for furnishing equipment only complete, delivered in the City of San Luis Obispo in accordance with their bid and as accepted by the City Council, be allowed and passed; that the City Clerk be authorized to draw a warrant for the entire amount ($1,925.40). Motion carried. Reference: Council Minutes of October 28th, 1939. The claim of 'the Gamewell Company for $77.01 was laid over until the next meeting of the Council. Ordinance No. 193 (New Series) - An Ordinance establishing grade on Grove Street between Higuera Street and San Luis:.Obispo Creek was finally passed on-motion of B. Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell by the following vote: L. Ayes: J.3. Berkemeyer, R. P. Howell, Joseph Leary, L. F. Sinsheimer Foes: None Absent: L. J. Defosset Ordinance 'Yo. 194 .(New Series) - An Ordinance providing for the lease of certain real property owned by the city of San Luis Obispo was finally passed on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell, by the following vote: Ayes: 7. B. Berkemeyer, R. P. Howell, Joseph Leary,,L. F. Sinsheimer Noes: None Absent: L. J. Defosset Application of the Santa Maria Gas Company for permit to replace an old 2" pipe with a 3" pipe on Garden Street between Buchon and Upham Streets was granted with the provision that work be done under the sunervision of the City Engineer. The petition of Kline Williams for permit to construct retaining wall, lot 2, Block 9, on property line granted on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by Joseph Leary. The application of Kline 117illiams for perriit to fill in 190 ft. park area of sidewalk on the east side of Nioomo :Street between Monterey and Palm Streets granted. Work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. ._nnlication of Nary A. O'Reilly for permit to recess curb for a distance of 30 ft. and ramo sidewalk area 3 ft. on the south side of Monterey Street between Andrews Street and the City Limits (Hollywood Subdivision) granted on motion of J.
