On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil, the matter of a cert
seed of the Southern Pacific Railroad Co. to the City of San Luis Obispo was referred to
Mayor for investigation and report to the Council.
Re: Matter of testing flow Dalidio Well No. 2: It was moved by Ralph C.
seconded by W.. H. Brazil, that the matter in question be referred back to the
Commissioner of Public Works with power to,act,
Resolution No. 42.2 (New Series) - A Resolution fixing the Salary of the
Superintendent of Streets of the City of San Luis Obispo at $250.00 per month was passed
adopted, on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil by the following vote:

Chorro Street between Center Street and.Venable Stree.t..for..purpose of installing sewer
for new residence referred, on-motion of Joseph.Leary,..secbnded by Ralph C. Kennedy,
to the Commissioner of Public Works for report to the Council.
Application of Santa'Maria Gas Company for permit to break pavement
2 ft. x 4 feet,-.; on Palm Street between Essex Street and Johnson Street for purpose of
repairing gas leak, referred to Commissioner of Public Works with power to act.
On motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by W. H. Brazil, the petition of
the Union Oil Company for permit to renew three (3) telephone poles on Monterey Street
between Johnson Street and Ida Street referred to the Commissioner of•Public Works for
investigation and report to the Council.
Re: Communication of H. C. Kinsman et al relative to transferring to
City of San Luis Obispo a certain strip of land-known as Caudill Street, from its inter-
section with Broad Street through to Lawton Street and -from Lawton Street west to Story
Street. Matter discussed, and on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary, same
referred to the Mayor and the City Engineer for further investigation and report to the
Council.
Petition of San Luis Garbage Company by J. V.. Piuma relative to.an
Ordinance for the handling of garbage and making provision for franchise for same was
referred to the City Attorney for further investigation on motion duly seconded and
carried.
Petition of L. E. McMahan relative to Speed Stop Signs or Caution_Signs
on the 1100 Block on Islay.Street where said Street intersects Toro Street, was referred
to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report to the Counci
on motion duly seconded and carried.
In a letter, H. A. Payton presented his resignation as Chief of Police
to become effective June 1st, 1939 and requested that he be transferred to the position
of Night Desk Office in the Police Department, It was moved by Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded
by W. H.'Brazil and carried that the resignation be accepted to become effective June
1st, 1939, W. H. Brazil then nominated H. A. Payton as night Police Desk Officer,to be-
come effective at the time his'present position as Chief of Police terminates, June 1st,
1939, at a salary of $140.00 per month.

A list of unpaid licenses for the April quarter 1939 were presented by
the City Collector and referred to the Police Department for collection.
The following applications for licenses were continued for further in-
vestigation and report:

Application of Rundle's Inc. for permit to hang a neon sign at O'Reilly'
Golden Rule Court, 1.991 Murray Ave. granted on motion of W.. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P.
Howell with the provision that said sign be hung according to the provisions of Ordinance
and under the supervision of the City Engineer,
On favorable report and motion of R. F. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil,
application of B. F. Loveall for permit to connect with sewer on Harris Street between
Sandercock Street and Branch Street granted, work to be done under supervision of the City
Engineer.
It was moved by W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy and carried
that Commissioner of Public Works, R. P. Howell, be authorized to remove all gas light
standards not now in use,

On motion of W. H. Brazil.,...seconded..by Joseph Leary, it was ordered that
the salary of W. M. Reed, Fireman, be changed to $125.00.per month rather than $140.00
per month as previously set out in minutes of May 22nd,, 1939.
Matter of changing location of a "Speed Sign" on North Monterey Street
referred to Commissioner of Public Health and Safety.
On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, Donald W. Parks
was placed in nomination as Chief of Police on six months probationary trial; services
to begin June.lst, 1939.

It was moved by W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell, that the salary of
the Chief of Police be fixed at $200.00 per month and written in Resolution.
Resolution No. 423 .(New Series.) A Resolution Fixing the Salary of the
Chief of Police of the City of ,San Luis Obispo was introduced and adopted on motion of
R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary by the following vote:

Re: Pump at Meinecke 'Nell: Matter discussed. It was moved by Ralph C.
Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil and carried that matter be referred to the Commissioner
of Public Works for investigation as to agreement, contract, etc.
Vernon Porter appeared and requested that a fire hydrant be installed at
Murray and Kentucky Streets. Petitioner requested to file written application for same.
Resolution No. 424 (New Series) - A Resolution accepting a Deed from
Southern Pacific Railroad Company and Southern Pacific Company.for a certain parcel of
land in Block 19, Buena Vista Addition to the.City of San Luis Obispo was passed and
adopted on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy seconded by W. H. Brazil by the following vote:

Resolution No. 425 (New Series) - A Resolution accepting an Assignment
from Southern Pacific Railroad Company and Southern Pacific Company transferring and
conveying to the City of San Luis Obispo a four inch pipe line and a five inch pipe line,
etc. was passed and adopted on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil,
by the following vote:
