On motion of W. H. Brazil,_ seconded.. by. Ralph - C...Zennedy the City Attorney was
directed to furnish the Council with a Resolution..designating.the following named Street
intersections as Boulevard Stops:
Intersection Mountain View Street and North Broad Street
Intersection Toro Street and Hathway Avenue
Intersection Palm Street.and Osos Street
Intersection Archer Street and Pacific Street
On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded.by W. H. Brazil the meeting adjourned.

City Council met -in regular session. Mayor Fred C. Kimball presiding&
Present: W.H.Braz 1, R.P.Howell Ralph C. Kennedy, Fred C. Kimball, Joseph Leary.
Absent: None
The minutes of June 19th and ,26th were read and approved as read.
The following applications for permit to build were granted:
G. B. Benner - Residence & Garage -Lot 7, Blk 4, Fixlini Street, Cost $4800.00
Lola A. McNamara - Res. and Garage ( 2 Apts.) pt lot 1 Blk 39, " 4000.00
'Sm. Jones - Res. and Garage, pt lots 8 & 99 Blk 120,Ingleside Tr. 2300.00
Dolly Dunning - Addn. of room, lot "E" Blk 2, Central Addn. " 100.00
Ben Cerini - Garage, pt lot 3. Blk 249 .50.00
The application of M. M. Evans for permit to build a double garage on lot 14, Block
1352 Phillips Addition at a cost of, 350.00
was referred, on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by W. H. Brazil, to the Commissioner
of Public Works with power to act. Ralph C. Kennedy voted "No ".
It was moved by Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil and carried that
the following applications for permit to lay sidewalk and curbing be granted. Work to
be done under the supervision of the City Engineer:
Stratton Smith - 50 ft. of 5 ft. par!: sidewalk-and curbing on south side of High
Street, between Cypress and Beebee Streets.
Chas. L. Dennis - 50 ft. of 5 ft. park sidewalk and curbing on south side of High
Street between Cypress and Beebee Streets.
C. W. Brown - 100 ft of curbing on south side of High Street between Cypress and
Price Streets.
Application of San Joaquin Power Division, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. No.
256 for permit to replace a pole on Pismo Street between Broad and Garden Streets was
referred, on motion of Ralph C: Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil to the Commissioner of
Public Works with power to act.
The reports of the City Collector and the Pound Master for the month of June,
1939, were received and ordered placed on file.
Re: Reservoir Canyon Road: It was moved by Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by
W. H. Brazil that the Commissioner of Public Works be authorized and directed to
improve, by oiling, etc. that portion of Reservoir Canyon Road, known as San Luis Obispo

3 610 County Road.No. 87, and_. more ..particularly..described..in a certain lease and set out
and stipulated in said lease, between S. Jackson.Lowe and-the-City. of San Luis Obispo, datei
August 29th, 1938. Motion carried.
Communication of W. B. Roselip relative to improvement of Reservoir Canyon
Road referred to the Department of Public Works.
Communication received from C. Russell Hoyt, Commander of Post No. 669
American Legion, relative to conducting a Mobilization Disaster Relief Test between
July 1st and 15th. It was moved by R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil that the
matter be referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety and the Mayor with
power to act.
Claims against the City for the month of June 1939, were ordered paid, on
motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil, subject to the approval of the
heads of the respective departments and the Mayor.
The petition of Vernon Porter for fire hydrant at the corner of Murray Ave.
and Kentucky Street again brought up. After discussion the matter was referred to the
Commissioner of Public Works for conference with A. 0. Gosset of the State Division of
Forestry and Alfred Ferrini, County Supervisor, and report back to the Council.
Re: Petition of A. J. Vermazen.for the removal of certain trees at the
northeast.end of Pacific Street. It was moved by R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C.
Kennedy that R. Bassi be instructed to remove said trees for the wood at no expense to
the City. Work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer.
Mayor Fred C. Kimball presented the names of Dr. Dorsey M. Kelly and Mrs.
Christine Hollister for appointment as Library Trustees. Nominations were approved by
unanimous roll call vote.of the Council and Dr..Kelly and .Mrs. Hollister were so de-
clared elected Library Trustees to serve at the pleasure of the Council.
.Re: Salary Adjustments: It was moved by R..P.Howell, seconded by Ralph
C. Kennedy that C. Escalante and W. H. Ragle be put on a regular salary basis of $$135.00
per month each, beginning July 1st, 1939. Motion carried.
It was moved by R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy that the com-.
pensation of the following named employees be increased from $4.00 per day to $4.50 per
day beginning July 1st, 1939:

J. M. Anderson
R. E. Klaucke
A. Gularte
C. L. Coffing
Chas. Jones
Geo. Branin
On motion of R. P. Howeill, seconded by W. H. Brazil, it was ordered that
the request of Mrs. Marvin Arnold regarding replacing 48 chrysanthemum plants and trim-
ming certain hedge by Mr. Jones be granted. Motion carried on roll call vote - Joseph
Leary voting "No ".
Re: Request of Mr. Ball for water service on Crandall '.day: Commissioner of
Public Works, R. P. Howell, and the Commissioner of Supplies, Joseph Leary, to act as
Committee to bring back a report regarding extending water lines outside the City Limits
and charges to be made to applicants, also give recommendations as tp procedure and
proportion of cost.
Investigation report of Leonard Lenger, City Engineer, re: Islay Street
Improvement presented by the City Attorney, read and ordered filed.
Resolution No. 431 (New Series) A Resolution approving report (Islay Street
Improvement) and fixing the time and place of hearing thereon as August 14th, 1939 was
introduced and adopted, on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil by the
following vote:
