and carried.
The application of John F. Patrick for license to conduct and carry on the
business of operating mechanical amusement devices under Ordinance No. 222 (New Series)
was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report.
The petition of A. J. Vermazen et al requesting the Council to oil mix Pacific
Street between Santa Rosa Street and Toro Street, (-said petitioners agreeing to pay 25V
per lineal foot for said work) was.received and on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by
Ralph C. Kennedy, said petition was referred to the Commissioner of Fublic Works for
investigation and report to -the Council.
Communication from the American Police Patrol, by John E. Wiese, was read and
referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report.
The report . of the City Collector and the report of the Chief of Police for
the month of January, 1941 were received and ordered placed on file.
Claims against the City for the month of January 1941 were ordered paid on
motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil, subject to the approval of the heads
of the respective departments and the Mayor.
Communication from Lucy D. Handschy relative to certain electric light wires
crossing Higuera Street and,Osos Street was.received and referred to the Commissioner of
Public Works and the City Attorney for investigation and report to the Council.
The, petition of J. G: Jones for franchise for Street Bus ead of the Southern
Pacific Co. for spur track again laid over.

The application of Emma J. Claudean for license for Astrology denied on 43
motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Joseph Leary.
Notification from.the State Board of Equalization under date of January 25,
1941 of the application of Lloyd E. Tiernan of the Mayfair Club, 645 Higuera Street for
110n Sale Beer" license was received and ordered placed on file on motion of W. H.Brazil,
seconded by Joseph Leary.
The petition of the Harold J. Anderson Post, No. 1766, Veterans of Foreign
Wars, for permit to hold a show put on by "Arthur's Mighty nmerican Shows" during the
latter part of March or April was again discussed and referred for further investigation.
Application of E. A. 1�harlesworth for permit to conduct a ball room and school
of dancing at 977 Higuera Street was granted on motion of 4Y. H. brazil, seconded by R.P.
Howell. . _
Application of Eva Kimmons for license fora Restaurant at 158 Higuera Street
was again laid over.
It was moved by W. H..Brazil, seconded by R.P. Howell that the City Attorney
and the Assistant City Engineer be directed to draw a resolution requesting that Stop and
Go Signals be installed at Monterey and Santa Rosa Streets; resolution to be presented to
the Division of State Highways. Motion carried.
It was moved by W. H. Brazil that a Stop and Go 6ignal be installed at Monte
and Chorro Streets. Motion was lost for the lack of a second.
On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph �;. Kennedy, Stanley Ramage was
appointed as a Police Officer at a salary of $125.00 per month,.starting February 5, 1941
for six months probationery period. Motion carried.'
It was moved by ^'. H. Brazil, seconded by Joseph Leary that J. E. Brown be
transferred from the Police Department to the City Clerk's office as Assistant to the City
Clerk and that he retain his police seniority under such transfer. Salary to remain at
$150.00 per month. Motion carried.
Re: Claim H. B. Douglas in the amount of $360.00 for Architects fees on the
'N. P. A. Building on Pismo Street being constructed by the City: Commissioner R. F.Howell
and City Engineer reported favorable, and on motion of R. F. Howell, seconded by W.H. Brazi
it was ordered that a warrant.bedrawn in the amount. of $200.00 as first payment on said
claim. Motion carried. Joseph Leary voted "No ".
On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil the meeting adjourned
to Monday, February 10, 1941 at 7:30 P. M.
