Kennedy, F. C.,Kimball, Joseph Leary Absent: Nnne The following applications for permit to::.build were granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary: Edith SchilliAg - Auto Court, Part of Blk. "B ", Phillips Addn. Cost $ 180000.00 Richard Harris - Res. and Gar. Part of Lot 159 Blk, 180, Loomis Addn. " 39250.00 Rosanna Taylor-- Double Gar. with 2 apts. Pt of Lot 149 Blk. 25, 31800.00 Margaret Chase = Addn. of a room, Pt of Lot 31 Blk. 429 " 2,000.00 G. W. Sanders - Res. Part of Lot 20 & 21, Phillips & Beebee Addn. " 1,000.00 The application of J. A. Villa for permit to raze a building on Lot 18, Block 5, Imperial Addition was granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W.- H. Brazil. On motion of R. F. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil the application of Neon Sales & Service for permits to install neon-signs at the Telegram- Tribune Co., Morro Street, and for the Assembly of God Churdh at the corner of Chorro and Islay Streets were referred to the Commissioner of lublic Health and Safety for investigation and report to the Council. On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil the following applications for permit to break pavement for the purpose of installing new sewer connections were re- ferred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act: Golden State Co., by H. H. McBride - Higuera St. between Nipomo & Carmel Streets Wm. Righetti, by H. H. McBride - Osos St. between Mill St. and Peach St. The application of C. A. De Velbiss for permit to connect with sewer on Lot 9, Block 35, Phillips Syndicate Addition ( outside the city ) was granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil with the provision that work be done under the super- vision of the City Engineer. The application of Frank B. Smith for registration as Class "E" contractor -to -. gether with U. S. Fidelity and Guaranty Co. bond in the amount of $500.00 and registration fee of $15.00 received, and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil it was ordered the surety be accepted, bond approved and registration granted. Application of George E. Barnes for registration as Class "D" contractor to- gether with U. S. kidelity & Guaranty Co. bond in-the amount of $1000.00 and registration fee of $25.00 received, and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil.it was ordered that the surety be accepted, bond approved and-registration granted. The petition ofthe Standard Motor Sales, by E. L. O'Reilly, requesting permit to run 110 volt electric current wires across Higuera and Osos Streets from their principle place of business at the corner of Osos and Higuera Streets to their used car lot on Osos Street between Marsh and Higuera Streets was granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell. The report of the Police Judge for the month ending January 31., 1941 was received and ordered placed on file on motion duly seconded and carried. This being the time-and place fixed for hearing on the assessment for the 1 Improvement of portions of Mill, Peach, Osos and Morro Streets ( Peach Street Jt. Improvement) in the City of San Luis Obispo in accordance with Resolution of Intention No. 534 (New Ser and in -a ccordance with Notice of such hearing dated January 23, 1941,. the matter is now to up by the Council. There were no written protests filed and there were no property owners present to make verbal protests. s) 1 1 0 1 Resolution No. 555 (New Series).- A Resolution approving the Assessment4 z) for the Improvement of portions of Mill, leach, Qsos and Morro Streets ( Peach St. Jt. Improvement ) in the.City of San Luis Obispo was duly and regularly adopted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil by the following vote: Ayes: W.H. Brazil, R.P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None W. E. Smith and George A. Bender appeared before the Council and requested information relative to licenses for certain businesses in the City of San Luis Obispo. On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell it was ordered that the following applications for licenses be. granted: Dewey Curtiss - Restaurant - 406 Higuera St. Cigars sideline Soft Drinks The applicatinnof Elizabeth M. Dart for permit to break curbing and ramp sidewalk for driveway on the east side of Broad Street.between Church Street and Leff Street was granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil with the protision that the work be done under the supervision of the City Zngineer. The application of Neon Sales & Service for permit to hang a neon sign for the Osos Liquor Store at 1601 Osos Street ( Mrs. Feliciano ) was granted on motion of 'td. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Hov +ell with the ,provision that the work be done in accord- ante with ordinance and under the supervision of the City Engineer. On motion of R. P. Howell-, seconded by W. H. Brazil it-was ordered that the petitionof A. J. Vermazen et al requesting that Pacific Street between Santa Rosa and Toro Streets be improved by an oil -mix method was ordered placed on file for future reference. The application of the American iolice Patrol, by John E. Wiese, for permit to establish a private night watch and Detective Service in the City of San Luis Obispo was denied on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell. Communication from Lucy D. Handschy under date of February lst,.1941 was received and ordered placed on file on. motion duly seconded and carried. Communication from Harold J. tinderson Post No. 1766, Veterans of Foreign Wars relative to show was again laid over and referred to the City Attorney. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil it was ordered that the matter of the application of the Southern Pacific R. R: Company to construct a spur track across High Street be received and placed on file. Ah order from the Railroad Commission relative to construction by Southern Pacific Co. of a spur track at grade across High Street in the City of San Luis Obispo was received and placed on file on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil. Resolution No. 556 (New Series) - A>Resolution relating to the installation of Automatic Traffic Control Signals at the intersection of Monterey and Santa Rosa Streets was introduced and adopted on motion of W. H. Brazil seconded by R. P. Howell by the following vote: Ayes: W.H. Brazil, R.P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None The following matters were presented and continued for further consideration Petition of J. G. Jones - Franchise St. Bus Carrier Line Eva nimmons - Restaurant at 158 Higuera Bt. John F. Patrick - Re: Licenses operating mechanical amusement devices. It was moved by Joseph Leary, seconded by R. P.'Howell that permission be granted adjoining property owners to cut down a dead tree on sidewalk area at Broad and Branch Streets. Motion carried. On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R.P.Hoviell.the meeting adjourned.
