Kimbell, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None The application of the Old Mission Church for permit to connect with sewer on Broad Street between Monterey and Palm Streets ivas granted on motion of R. P.Howell, seconded by 1AT. H. Brazil - work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. Commissioner ';V. H. Brazil requested a "Keep to the Right " sign ( reflector type) for Chorro St. at Murray Ave., also, for a reflector type "Dead end Street7 sign for upper end of Higuera Street. Councilman Joseph Leary was instructed by the Mayor, to look into the purchase and secure prices. Councilman Joseph Leary protested the airing of Police Court affairs over the radio. Matter discussed but no action taken. It vias movedby 11. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell that Palmer Nelson be appointed as a Police Officer for the regular six months probation period at a starting salary of $125.00 per month, as of Inlay 15, 1941. Motion carried. Capt. E. Huntting, Camp San Luis Obispo, Morale Officer, appeared before the Council, thanking the Council and Post No. 66 of the Ameri @an Legion for their part in making the "Sold-ier's Hut" possible, stating the. "Hut" is used by 40 to 50 soldiers nightly. He also introduced Mr. Owens Jones, Recreation Director assigned to the "Hut" by the W. P. A. On motion of TV. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Present: W.H.Brazil, R.P.Howell,.Ralph C.Kennedy, F. C..Kimball, Joseph Leary Absent: None The minutes of May 5th and 12th were read and approved as read. The Council now proceeded to organize as a new Council as of May 15th, 1941. The members elected having previously taken Oath.of Office, their Official. Bonds were presented. The Council approving the bond of.Mayor F. C..Kimball.and.Mayor F. C. Kimball approving the bonds of R. P. Howell and Joseph Leary. On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Joseph Leary, R. P. Howell was placed in nomination for Vice President of the Council and upon roll call vote, R. P. Howell was unanimously elected and so declared Vice- President of the Council. The Commissioner. of Finance and Revenue, Ralph C. Kennedy was placed in nomination by R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Johnson — Store Bldg. Block 100 Cost 150.00 " 38,000.00. Lawrence G. Klingbell - Warehouse & Garage, Pt. Block 56, " 19600.00 The application of Steve Zegar, dba Yellow Taxi Cab Co. was referred to the Commissioner of Public Bealth and Safety for investigation and report,' on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell. The application of Steve Mendoza for Cigars Sideline and Soft. Drinks was re- ferred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report, on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The application of Theo. M. Maine for registration as a Class "C" Contractor, together with Hartford Accident and Indemnity Co. bond in the amount of $2000.00, and re- gistration fee of $50.00 received and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil, the surety was accepted, bond approved and registration'granted, as was also the application of Robert F. Batty as a Class "D" contractor, together with U: -S. Fidelity and Guaranty Co. bond in the amount of $1000.00 and registration fee of "$25.00. The application of Richard F. Harris for sidewalk for a distance of 95 feet on the Northerly side of Upham Street between Morro and Chorro Streets was referred"to the Nommissipner of Public Works, with power to act, on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil. The application for transfer of license from Dewey Curtiss dba Polly's Cafe, at 406 Higuera Street to Mrs. John Neitzel was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report, on motion of R'. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The report of the City Clerk for the month of April, 1941 was received and order(' placed on file. Petition received from I. 0. Compton, 810 Grove Street asking permission to remove trees from Parkway, and on motion of 'N. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy same was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with paver to act. 88 Petition received-from Cline's Electric Co. to hang a neon sign for Karl's Shoe Store at 786 Higuera Street and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by Joseph Leary, it -was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for inves- tigation and report. Letter received from J.-E. auaresma of the I. D. E. S. Hall Association asking permission to hold a parade on Sunday, June 1st, 1941 and on motion:of W: H.Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, it was granted, under the supervision of the Police Department and the Department of Public Health and Safety. Letter addressed to the Telegram Tribune-Publishing Co. under date of May 159 1941 and signed by J. E. Price, 888 Church Street asking the City to'erect Street Sign was read to the Council and on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil, same was ordered placed on file. Ordinance No. 224 (New Series)'- An Ordinance granting to John G. Jones a Franchise to establish an Intra - Municipal Motor Bus Line was finally passed on motion of R. P. Hoviell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy by the following vote: Ayes: W.H. Brazil, R.P.Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None The application of Steve Zegar for permit to build Garage with Apartments above was granted on motion of R. P.-Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil. The application of John Norton Pharcpacy for Cigars Sideline was granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell. P; Howell, Resolution No. 576 (New Series) - A Resolution Accepting a Deed from Alvin R. Kaiser and Beatrice M. Kaiser conveying certain property to the City of San Luis Obispo was passed and adopted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil, by the following vote: Ayes: W.H.
