The petition of the Neon Sales & Service to hang a double faced neon sign for

Communication from Timothy I. O'Reilly, submitting his application for position
as rolice Judge for the City of San Luis Obispo was received and ordered filed.
Letter received from L. F. Andrews, 985 Palm Street complaining of the unnecessary
use of automobile horns by motorists during the night was referred to the Commissioner of
Public Health and Safety and the Chief of Police for the necessary action, on motion of
W. H. Brazil,'seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy.
Communication received from M. G. Santos and Frank D. Silva requesting the use
of sufficient water from the City's sewage disposal plant for irrigation purposes on their
land;
after discussion, same was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety and he

was instructed to check with the health department regarding same.
Communication received from Miss M. Swingle asking permission to operate an
"All Girl" taxi service, and on motion of R.P.Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, same was
referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report.
Letter received from Hannaford & Talbot calling the City's attention to the
possibility of investing their surplus funds, which is permissible, under Act No. 2827 of
the General Laws of the State of California, copy of which is attached to letter, and on
motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R.P. Howell, same was ordered filed.
Communication from David Kingman, endorsing the application of Paul Jackson
for the position of Police Judge for the City of San Luis Obispo was ordered received and
placed on file..
Letter received from D. E. Bassetti, Police Officer, tendering his resignation
in view of the 'fact that he has been called to Military Service, and on motion of W. H.Brazil,
seconded by R. P. Howell it was moved that he be given a leave of absence for one year as
of Tune 20, 1941. Motion carried.
The report of the City Treasurer and of the City Clerk for the month of May, _
1941, were received and ordered placed on file.
Kenneth Beck, City Engineer, presented a map of a tract of land known as
"Tract No. 34 ", for the city's acceptance and on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by 'ff. H.
Brazil it was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, and Mr. Lenger, for investi-
gation and report back to the Council.
This being the date set for hearing on the Improvement of Grove Street (Jt.)
Improvement, ( reference Resolution of Intention No. 583 (New Series) dated May 26, 1941,
fixing the date of such hearing as June 16, 1941, at 7:30 o'clock P. M.; the matter is now
taken up by the Council; there were no written or verbal protests made, and
Resolution No. 586 (New Series) - Ordering certain work on portions of Grove,
Mill, Palm and Ida Streets, Hillcrest Place and Phillips Lane, as described in Resolution
of Intention No. 583 (New Series) of the City Council of the City of San Luis Obispo, and
directing the "City Clerk to post notice and inviting sealed proposals or bids for doing said
work : said bids to be filed with the City Clerk of said Council on or before 7:30. Oftlock
P. M. on the 14th day of July, 1941, was adopted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by
R. P. Howell, by the following vote:

General Petroleum - to cut curb for a distance of 30 ft. in one place and 36 ft. in
another place and ramp walk from gutter to sidewalk and remove
ad,jdining sidewalk and replace same with a 6 inch walk.
The application of Eugene Gregg for dance hall at 168 Higuera Street was denie
on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Joseph Leary.
The application of the Public Delivery Service by R. E. Barnet and J.M. Jobe,
for parcel. service in the City of San Luis Obispo was granted on motion of W. H.Brazil,
seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy.
The application of the Veterans Cab Co. by G. C. Wright, under date of May 12,
1941, giving his address as Box 104, San Niguel, . ^jas denied until such time that they show
proof of a local stand or office, on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Joseph Leary.
The following licenses remaining unpaid for the April 1941 quarter were ordere

The remaining uncollected licenses for the April Quarter w ere given to the
Police Department for collection for one week longer.
On motion of'W. H. Brazil, seconded by R.P.Howell it was ordered that Timothy
. O'Reilly be appointed to the office of Police Judge for the usual six month's probation-
ary period, as of June 23, 1941, at a salary of $125.00 per month.
Mayor F. C. Kimball discussed the matter regarding the construction of walks,
curbs and gutters along Hathway Ave. to the city limits and the possibility of paying .for-
