On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Joseph Leary it was ordered that Judge Harris be requested to give all the assistance to the new Police Judge, add to assist him in turn- ins in his reports, until such time he becomes familiar with his work. On motion.of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R.F. Howell, Ralph Files was appointed a police officer for the usual six months probationary period, at a salary of 4125.00 per month as of June 18, 1941. Contractor, together with Maryland Casualty Co. bond in:-.the amount of 41000.00 and registration fee of $25.00 receivedand on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil it was ordered that the surety be accepted, bond approved and registration granted. The b:;nd of J. G. Jones in the amount of $500.00, of the London and Lancashire Indemnity Co. of "merica, re: Ordinance No. 224 (New Series) covering franchise for bus lines in the City of San Luis Obispo, was approved and accepted on motion of Ralph C. The bus schedules submitted by Jones Transportation Service designating bus routes in the City of San Luis Obispo was received and ordered filed oh motion of Ralph ' C. Kennedy, seconded by Vl. H.Brazil. The insurance policies covering the franchise of the bus lines of the Jones Transportation Co. were referred to the City Attorney for study and report back to the Council, on motion of.Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil. The application of E. L. Fa.uset for additional contractor's license raising same from a Class "D" to Class "C" Contractor, the fee being $20.84 additional, which is prorated for the remaining ten months, together with U. S. Fidelity and Guaranty Co. bond in the amount of $2000.00 received and on motion of_Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by V. H. Brazil it was ordered that the surety be accepted, bond approved and registration granted. Communication from Timothy I. O'Reilly, acknowledging appointment of Police Judge for the City of San Lois Obispo was received and ordered filed on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell. Letter from Attorney General Earl 'f!arrenin San Francisco, requesting the City of San Luis Obispo to designate someone to attend the r'ifth Annual California Technical Institute of Peace Officers' Training School to be held in July was referred to the Com- missioner of Public Health and Safety for further study, on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell. Letter received from the San Luis Obispo Board of Education, by E. D.Dunning, Supt. Buildings & Grounds, requesting the city to do certain work in increasing the rater mains and installing fire hydrants on school grounds; after discussion and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by ;'l. H. Brazil, same was referred to the Commissioner of rublil Heal_th_and- Safety and the City Engineer for investigation and to estimate the cost of the work to be done and report back to the.Council. Brazil. This being the date fixed by the Council and in accordance with published notice, for receiving bids for furnishing the City of San Luis Obispo for furnishing 4" 0. D. No. 10 gauge steel water pipe; the following isa list of all bids received, which were publicly opened and read: Western Pipe & Steel Co. of California - San Francisco, Calif. Kelly Pipe Co. Los nngeles, Calif. r log The best and lowest bid received being that of the Kelly Pipe Co. for 4,040 feet of 4 inch 0. D. 10 gauge Steel ripe, F.C.B. Trenchside at a cost of 36 cents per foot, and on motion of R.P.Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil it was moved that the bid of the Kelly ripe Co. be accepted. Motion carried. The City Clerk was directed to return the certified check in the amount of $175.00 to the Vlestern Pipe add Steel Co., the unsuccessful bidder. The Bond of Timothy J. O'Reilly, Police Judge for the City of San Luis Obispo was approved and accepted on motion of RLIph C. Kennedy, seconded by d, H. brazil. On favorable report add motion of R. P. The application of.Loys Watson for license for Skating Rink at 1200 Archer Street ( property of Mrs. B. C. Smith) was held over for one week for further investigation on suggestion of Mrs. B. C. Howell, that the letter be filed. Communications from M. G. Santos and Frank D. Silva re: water from the city's Disposal Plant for irrigation purposes again brought up. After discussion it was ordered that same be-filed. The matter of the communication from M. L. Swingle re: "All Girl" taxi service was received and ordered filed. Application for A. V1. Cogdell for permit to build addition to present building on part of Lot 13, in the La Vina Tract at a cost of $400.00 was granted, as amended, on motion of R.P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C.• Kennedy. The application of Edith M. Plato asking the city to extend the sewer line up Johnson Ave. to Lot 5 in order to make connection with sewer was received and on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil it was ordered that the permit be denied, without prejudice. Resolution No. 590 (New Series) - A Resolution approving final map of (Tract No. 34'was introduced and adopted on motion of W. Kennedy Absent: None Resolution No. 593 (New Series) - A Resolution betermining and Classify- ing certain streets as streets of major importance within the City of San Luis Obispo, for the purpose of expending thereon gas tax'funds,- Grove Street from Monterey Street to Murray Street Mill Street from Santa Rosa Street to Grand Ave. _ was passed and adopted on motion of R. Howell it was moved that the City Attorney and City Engineer be authorized to make the necessary preliminary survey for obtaining right -of -ways for the purpose of pipe line from Stenner Creek into the City of San Luis Obispo. On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell'it was moved that George Treanor be appointed as Police Officer for the City of San Luis Obispo for the usual six month's probationary period at a salary of $125.00 per month as of June 24, 1941.
