City Council met in adjourned session - Mayor F. C. Kimball presiding.

The following applications for permit to build were granted on motion of
R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil:

The application of the Pacific Tel. and Tel. Co. for permit to place con-
duit under sidewalk on Santa Rosa Street between Monterey and Higuera Street was re-
ferred to the Commissioner of Public 'Norks, with power to act.
The following sidewal 'rc permits were granted' on motion of R. i. Howell•,
seconded by sM. H. Brazil; work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer:
S. P. Milling Co. - 35 ft. on Santa Barbara Ave. between High and Upham Streets
Louis Ferrasci - 36 ft. on the east side of Chorro St. between pacific
and Pismo Streets
Mrs. Hanrahan - 50 ft. , on the east side of Chorro St. between Pacific
and Fismo Streets
On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil the fallowing permits
for curbs and gutters were granted; work to be done under the supervision -of the City
Fngneer:
Iv9rs. H. L. Coffin - curb and gutter on Santa Rosa St. between Leff and R.R. r/w
Theo.. C. Maino - Curb and Gutter on Idurray and Turner Streets between
Grove Streets.
The following applications.for permit to connect with sewer were referred
to the Commissioner of Public Works, on motion of '•1.H.Brazil, seconded by Ralph C.Kennedy:
A. M. Tripp - open street for sewer connection on Nipomo St.
between Falm and Higuera Streets
Angelina R. Silacci - open ditch for sewer cone. on French Street
between Higuera and city limits.
The application of Max Lagao for Dilliards and Pool at 158 Higuera Street
and the ap•p�ication of 0. Y. Hazard for Lunch Counter at 208 Higuera 3t. were granted on
motion of YI. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy.
In Re: Communication from Chris Anholm relative to installation of a street
light at the corner of Mt. View St. and Lincoln Ave: Mr. R.Y. Howell reported to the
Council that he had instructed the -Cower Co. to install the light.
The petition filed by the 'Vest Coast Fhoto and Novelty Co. for permission
to hI-ng a cloth sign at 1040 Chorro St. was granted for a period of 30 days, as the sign
is to be a temporary sign only, upon the following roll call vote:

Re: Petition signed by 11". .7. Mathews et al relative to a Parking time limit
zone in the 300 block on Higuera Street; The City Attorney gas instructed to draft an
ordinance and present same to the Council.
Re.: Communication from the Pacific Coast Bldg. Officials Conference regard-
ing the "Defense Housing Critical List "; same was ordered received and filed.
Ordinance No. 238 (New Series) -An Ordinance ::mending Section 44 of
Ordinance No.. 76 .(Neva aeries) :^gas finally passed on motion of ';J. H. Brazil, seconded by
Ralph C. Kennedy, upon the following vote:

The applications for renewal of quarterly licenses were a- pproved on motion. of VI.H.
Brazil, seconded by Ralph. C. Kennedy.
Mr. R. Hollings appeared before the Council complaining about the type of work
the i:`ucific Tel. and Tel. sub - contractor is doing in replacing the sidewalk along Chorro
St. and a protest was also received from Alvin Kaiser regarding the cutting of roots of
trees in front of his property on Chorro Street by the same contractor. The matter was
discussed by the Council and was referred to the Building Inspector, ',`d.D.Sanford for report
back to the Council.
Resolution No.'657 (New Series) - h Resolution amending and correcting Resolution
No. 653 (New Series) in reference to the compensation to be paid F. C. Stolte Company for
the restoration of certain alternates and certain changes in connection with enlargements
and improvements to the Sewage Disposal 'Plant w; s passed and adopted on motion of W.H.
Brazil, seconded by R. 1'. Howell, by the following vote:

F'esolution No. 658 (New Series) - A Resolution authorizing the execution of a
deed conveying to the County of San Luis Obispo a right of way across certain real pro-
perty in Stenner Creek Canyon owned-by the City of San Luis Obispo was passed and adopted
on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by 1.7. H. Brazil by the following vote:
Ayes: ,'I.H.Brazil, R.P.Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary
Noes: None
Absent: None
On motion of VI. H. Brazil, seconded by R. F. Howell, it was ordered that the mayor
be given povjer to act immediately, and to place the facilities of the•Engineering and
Street Department at the disposal of the County Defense Directors in case of emergency.
Notification from the State Board of Equalization received relative to "On Sale
Beer" license from 0. P. Hazard at 208 Higuera Street dba as "Jack's place" was ordered
filed.
