The - following applications for permit to build were granted on motion of R. F.
Rowell, seconded by 1,17.H. Brazil:
G. A. Gushing - Change interior partitions and some window locations
Part of Lot 10, Block 152 Cost 415.00
0. H. Christie - Addn. to Garage to be used as storeroom. Part of
Lot 5, Block 54, M.& C. Addn. 120.00
H. E. Cox Remodel resident - Pt of Lot 49 BL{ 381 350.00
Chas. Munding - Remodel Garage for Apts. Block 43, 400.00
The application filed by Boriack Bros. for City License to operate a garage at
742 MLrsh Street was granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell.
The application of Mrs. Jeanette Taff for rooming house at 1028 Pismo, Street was
referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report on
motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell.
The application filed by Thelma Ibanez for Dance Hall at 166 Higuera Street was
referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report on
motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by 117. H. Brazil, as was also the application of J.
Barksdale Brown for Hotel at 158 Higuera Street.
The transfer of license from Martin Montano dba as Southside Grocery, to E.
Firpo at 100 Higuera Street was granted on motion of V7. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P.
Howe 11.
The transfer of license from Clyde T. O'Nan for Texaco Service Station at 1136
Santa Rosa Street to Boriack Bros. was granted on motion of W. H.Brazil, seconded by R.P.
Howell.
Communication received from Mrs. Lillie Sullivan requelting the removal of trees
on her property at 622 Brizzolara Street. Same was ordered received and filed.
The reports of the City Collector and Police Department for the month of July
1942 were ordered received and filed.
Claims against the City for the month of July, 1942 were ordered paid subject to
the approval_.of.:'th& heads of the respective departmentd and the Mayor.
The claim of Anita M. and Edwin Walter Unangst filed against the City in the
amount of $ 3000 against the Administration Fund, for damages to property, was denied, on
motion.of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil.
214 Re: Notifications received from the State Board of Equalization relative to
transfer.of licenses for "Off Sale Beer and Wine" and "Off Sale Distilled Spirits" from
Albert A. Bay to Albert A. Bay and °d Greenall dba Bay's Market. Same was ordered re-
ceived and filed.
Mr. J. B --nnedsen appeared before the Council concerning the inadequacy of the
water pressure to his two houses on Santa Rosa-Street between Pacific and Pismo Streets.
The Matter was referred to Commissioner Howell and the Engineering Department for in-
vestigation.
On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil, Mr. Calvin Cook, who
operates the Motel Inn Riding Stables, was given permission to allow riders to use the
mountain trail over city owned property in Reservoir Canyon on condition that the trail
is posted with "No Smoking" signs and a cleared space provided where riders may smoke.
rermission to use the.trail will be revoked if any violations occur. Joseph Leary voting
"No".
Resolution-No. 677 (New Series) - A Resolution Fixing the Salaries and Com-
pensation to be paid to members of the -Fire Department was passed and adopted on motion
of W.H.- Brazil, seconded by Joseph Leary upon the following roll call vote:
Ayes: W.H. Brazil, R. P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary
Noes: None
Absent: None
John C. Hudson and C. E. Freeman offered the services of the State Militia
in defending the City Reservoir in case of ::n invasion. Mayor Kimball suggested that in
the near future he would arrange a meeting of the heads of the San Luis Obispo Auxiliary
Police Force and the local -State Militia Units and City Officials, to adopt some plan-
in assigning units to-the various utilities.
Re: Franchise Santa Maria Gas Co.: Commissioner Leary brought to the attention
of the Council that in 1915 The Santa Maria Gas Co. was granted a franchise for 35 years
and posted a bond in the amount of $2500. In 1941 this company pulled out, owing the City
of San Luis Obispo 21/`1• of their earnings as called for in the Franchise and Mr. Leary
suggested that the City take the proper steps to recover this amount from the Bonding Co.
The Idlayor asked-the City Attorney for a report regarding this bond covering franchise from
the Santa Maria Gas Co..
On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil, the meeting adjourned to
August 10, 1942 at 7:30 P. M.
