was instructed to get prices on 3 -16" valves for pipe line and to present figures to-
gether with the cost of installation at the next meeting of the Council.

wooden sign at 991 Osos 3t, and rehang at 920 Monterey St. was granted on motion of ';J. 11.

The applications of Ciperina Ramil for licenses to conduct a nesteurant,

seconded by R. P. Howell.
Re: Com•.municati:n of the City of Los Angeles regarding the ore -half cent from
and out of tha three cent sales tax was ordered received and filed.
Commissioner Joseph Leary was instructed by the Mayor, to get prices on a
Parshall meter to be installed on the Poly Sewer line, and report back to the Council
at the next meeting.

1421 Garden Street was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for in-
vestigation and report, on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by 'r. H. Brazil.
The report of the City Treasurer and City Clerk for the month of September, 1942
were ordered received and filed, as wer.ealso the reports of the City Collector and the
Police Department for the month of October, 1942.
Communication received from a taxpayer of the City of San Luis Obispo asking
the Council for a "Cleanup" week wes ordered filed.
A letter was received from the California State Council of Defense requesting
the cooperation of the Council in permitting maximum utilization of all existing housing
facilities in the community. Same was ordered filed.
On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by ;°J. H. Brazil, the City Clerk was
instructed to return the certified check in the amount of Z$0350.00 which accompanied the
bid, of the Econolite Corporation, inasmuch as the work of installing the new. traffic
signals was completed.
The request of the County Board of Supervisors to cancel the assessments
against the oroperty recorded in the name,of Violet W. Lilley for the fiscal years,
1941 -42 was referred to the City Attorney, on motion of R.P. Howell, seconded by Ralph
0. Kennedy,- this property has been acquired by the County of.' San Luis Obispo.
The Merchandising Bond of Marie MacKay dba as "The Modern Health Foods" at
1135 Garden Street with John Burch and L. Zerfing as security, was accepted, bond approved
ana- license ordered issued, on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. F. Howell.
Claims against the City for the month of October, 1942 were ordered paid;
subject to the approval of the heads of the Departments and the Mayor, on motion of
Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded. t:y R. P. Hopiell. The salary claim of Hollis F.. Brovin for
the last half of October, 1942 was ordered paid on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded
by :'i.N.Brazil. Joseph Leary voting "No ". Joseph Leary made a motion that the claim of
Hollis Brown be referred to the City Attorney. The motion lost for want of a second.
Communication received from Police Judge T. J. O'Reilly, supplementary to his
letter dated October 19, 1942, asking that he be granted a leave of absence for the
d.uratinn of the war and waiving all rights to all salary renumeration from and after the
10th of November, 1942. Same was accepted and ordered filed.
The application of Austin K. 1'Jright for a license for taxicab, dba "Arena
Service Car" on Morro Road was granted on motion of H.-Brazil, seconded by Ralph C.
Kennedy.
The application of C. M. Smith for licerae for Bakery at 2145 Broad Street was
granted on motion of JJ.H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy.
The application of Theo. A. Hischier for sidewalk and curbing for a distance of
150 feet on the North side of''Joodbridge Street between Lawton and Broad Streets was
granted on motion of R.-P. Howell, seconded by W. A. Brazil; work to be done under the
suoervision of the City Engineer.
The application of H. J. Dubin for permit to lay sidewalk was again referred to
the Commissioner of Public `,,forks.
Re: Communic�Ition from the County of San Luis Obispo relative to the widening
of the street of E ft. on Osos Street between.I�,ionterev and Palm Street: The City Clerk
was instructed to get additional information regarding the paving.

Commissioner Ralph C. Kennedy recommended th,t the fire insurance for the
coming ye.-.r be written through Maurice Fitzgerald and resubmitted to other insurance
;genctes, and the policies be prorated to the various insurance agencies in to:Nn.
Commissioner Joseph Leary suggested that the City sue the Bonding Company
in the amount of $2500. on the :surety bond posted by the old Santa Maria Gas and Power
00., and on moti��n of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by :'Y. H. Brazil, the City Attorney wes
instructed to cc -ntact both the Santa Maria Gas Co. and the Bonding Co. regarding this
natter.
Commissioner R.P. Nowell stated that there would be a "Clean -Up" week some
;ime in the early part of November when the city trucks are available. No definite-.adate
Set at this time.
At the suggestion of Joseph Leary, and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedv,
seconded by ,11.H.Bra —il, it iNas decided to donate the old City Fire ell to the city's
scrap drive, giving Councilman Leary the responsibility of presenting the bell to the
proper authorities.
