City Hal 1, Friday, May 16, - 8:30 A.M. - 1947.
The City Council met in adjourned session; Mayor Ralph C. Kennedy presiding.
Present G.W.Baker, F.L.Gist, R. P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, Kline Williams
Absent: None
P:ayor Kennedy made a report to the Council stressing the needs and recommend-
ing the installation of automatic electrically operated traffic controllers at all places
where the traffic is, either so fast or heavy or of such type that life is endangered to
extent of frequent or continuous presence of a policeman. The City cannot finance a
Police force sufficiently large to cover all these points and te:heir supplement by the
untrained and youths carries with it too many hazards in itself.
By common consent of the Council, they recessed at this time in order that
the incoming Mayor and Councilmen may take their seats.
The incoming Mayor and Councilmen took their seats and Mayor Timothy I. O'Reil
called for a roll call vote:
Present: G..I.Baker, Vim. 0. Hall, R.P.Howell, Timothy 0. O'Reilly, K1ineWilliams
Absent: None
The members elected having previously taken the Oath of Office, their official
bonds were presented. The official bond of Mayor Timothy I. O'Reilly was presented and
aporoved by the Council.
The following bonds were presented and approved by the Mayor:
Bond of Wm. 0. Fall, Councilman
Bond of Kline Williams, "
Bond of J.E.Brown, City Clerk
The Council now proceeded to organize as the new Council, as of May 16, 1947,
For Commissioner of Public Works: R.P.Howell was placed in nomination by
Mayor Timothy I.O'Reilly, seconded by Wm. 0. Hall;
For Commissioner of Public Health and Safety: Kline Williams was placed in
nomination by Mayor Timothy I. O'Reilly, seconded by R.P.Howell;
For Commissioner of Finance: Wm. C. Hall was placed in nomination by Mayor
Timothy I. O'Reilly, seconded by G. W. Baker;
For Commissioner of Supplies: G.W.Baker was placed in nomination by Mayor
Timothy I. O'Reilly, seconded by Kline Williams;
For Vice - President of the Council, R. P. Howell was placed in nomination by
Mayor Timothy I. O'Reilly, seconded by G. W.Baker;
By co>�mon consent of the Council the above nominations were approved.
Communication from the Coordinating Council, extending an invitation to the
Mayor and Council to attend their regular meeting on May 27th, 1947 was ordered received
andfiled.
On motion of Kline Williams, seconded by-R.P. Howell, the meeting adjourned.
