Communication from Coca Cola Bottling Co. and check for license for Vending
i'achines from January 1, 1950 was ordered received and filed.
Communication from the Ladies of the Moose to solicit donations on a cedar
chest from May 11th to May 23rd was ordered received and filed on motion of Kenneth W.
Jones, seconded by Paul 4.Davis.
Communication from the Frito Co. requesting a pro -rata refund on a business
license, as they are no longer sending a truck into the City Limits was denied on motion
of Kenneth W.Jones, seconded by Paul W.Davis.
Communication from Standard Motors and Equipment Co. was held over.
By common consent of the Council the meeting adjourned.

The City Council met in regular session; Mayor Fred H.Lucksinger presiding.
Present: Paul W.Davis, Richard E.Gragg, Kenneth W.Jones, Fred H.Lucksinger
Absent: Nels Beck
The Minutes of the meeting of May 4th and Adjourned meeting of May 15, 1953 were
approved.
Claims for the month of May were approved and ordered paid subject to the approva:
of the heads of the respective departments end the Mayor.
Mr. R.Van A.Stoltze representing the L.F.Nelson Co. presented the final sub-
division maps for the PARK VIEW HOMES, Tract j{2, for the Council's approval. The maps
were tentatively approved, on motion of Paul W.Davig, seconded by Fred Lucksinger, subject
to filing of bond inappropriate amount and subject to a written Agreement between L. B.
Nelson Co. and the Public Works Department regarding inspection fees.
Mr. Merlyn Carpenter, Chairman of the Retail i "lerchants Committee of the Chamber
of Commerce, appeared before the Council requesting that during the forthcoming Druid's
Convention, the people attending the convention, be given a sticker for the windshields
of their cars so that they would not receive parking tickets for all night parking on
city streets and overtime parking in metered zones; the request was granted on motion
of Paul W.Davis, seconded by Kenneth W.Jones and that the Chamber Committee work out
details of stickers etc. with the Police Department.
At this time Mayor Lucksinger appointed the following "Citizens Committee"
to study the City Business License Ordinance and to recomrr,end changes to City Council.

to invocation at the Council meetings; It was moved by Kenneth W. Jones,. seconded by
Richard E.Gragg that the City accept offer of the Ministerial Assn to have invocation
by a representative of the Mini .sterial Assn. at each City Councilmeeting. The City Clerk
was instructed to send a list of the Council meetings so that the Ministerial Assn. could
make a roster of Ministers to attend the meetings.
The request of the American Legion Post #66 to solicit donations to raise
funds was granted on motion of Richard E.Gragg, seconded by Paul W.Davis.
Permission was granted the Veterans of Foreign 'gars, Harold J. Anderson Post
#1766 to sell poppies on the streets of S.L.O. Friday and Saturday, May 22nd and 23rd
on motion of Paul W.Davis, seconded by Richard E.Gragg.
Communication from Camden Hathway Re: Request for city license for claw machines,
was referred to the City Attorney for written_ opinion for legality.
Communication from the California State Poly Uol.lege Re: requesting the
Council's permission to install valves in the city water line; permission was granted by
the Council on motion of Paul W.Davis; seconded by Fred H.Lucksinger.
Communication from the U.S.Sewing Center for permission to move their location
from 698 Higuera St. to 715 Higuera St.; by common.consent of the Council, the communi-
cati ,)n was referred to the Building Inspector for disposition.
Re: List of Refunds for water connections submitted by Albert Nelson in Tract
No. 30 Escuela Alta Sub. was presented to the Council for payment; on motion of Kenneth
W. Jones, seconded by Richard E.Gragg it was ordered the refunds be paid. i°iotion carried.
Communication from the State compensation Insurance Fund enclosing dividand
check in the amount of $2051.18, which represents 33% of the workmen's compensation
insurance premium was ordered received and filed on motion.of Paul 6V.Davis, seconded by
Fred H.Lucksinger.
The request of Willard M. Reed for a leave of absence to be extended as a
Crossing Guard was granted on motion of Richard E.Gragg, seconded by Kenneth W.Jones.
Communication from the Division of Highways requesting cancellation of taxes
was granted on motion of Paul W.Davis, seconded by Richard E.Gragg.
Communication from David Ulansky Re: request for full 20¢ tax levy was referred
to the Budget Committee.
Communication from Wm. Rooney he: Salary Resolution to include "Part Time
Maintenance " was referred to the Budget Committee.
Communication from Richard Miller Re: BLANKET BONDS for city employees: It
was moved by Paul W.Davis, seconded by Fred H.Lucksinger that the Council approve the
specifications for Blanket Bonds and that the bids be opened at 10 A.M., June 1st, 1953
and that the City .Clerk mail a copy of the specifications to each insurance agent that
had presented informal bids.

Nelson of the California Polytechnic College Re: "water service "to the College
The Executive Secy. Richard Miller, sought Council's advice on employee who made
a false or incomplete statement in his original employment questionnaire. Mayor Lucksinger
said that in the case Mr. 14iller was referring to, he believed the Department was handling
the matter.
