Myron Graham, Donald Q. Miller, Arthur F. Spring, Kenneth E. Schwartz Absent: Emmons Blake City Staff Present: R. D. Young, Planning Director; J. H. Fitzpatrick, City Clerk; H. Johnson, City Attorney; R. D. Miller, Administrative Officer; D. F. Romero, City Engineer. Planning Commission Present: J. C. Brown, B. Franklin, J. Twyeffort, M. Dee, Laverne Schneider Division of Highways Present: Frank Gregory, Henry Case, Ralph Lejonhud, Ken Jones Frank Gregory, District Engineer, stated that the Division of Highways had made various studies of Route 227 (Edna Road) and it was their opinion after making these studies, that this road would not carry the capacity to warrant freeway ' status and it was their opinion that it would be primarily a commuter highway for people coming to and from the City of San Luis.Obispo. He then presented an alignment map showing the proposed widening of Route 227.from the,town of Edna to High Street in San Luis Obispo. He continued that the plans between these two points were to widen Route 227 and relocate portions which would include one railroad overcrossing and a re- alignment in the vicinity of the County Airport. He continued that this was a general overview of the complete project but they wished to discuss with the City Council the widening of Route 227 (Broad Street) from Orcutt Road to High Street in more detail. Henry Case explained the proposal for widening of Route 227 (Broad Street)from Orcutt Road to High Street. He presented a map showing properties affected by this proposed widening. He stated the street would be 80' wide curb to curb with four 12' driving lanes, two 8' parking lanes and a 16' turning pocket lane the length of the project. He continued, showing the widening detail property by property. Frank Gregory then stated that they hoped to get this matter before the public in more detail for public hearing during the month of June. They felt that after the hearings, it would take two years to get financing and then they would start work as soon as possible. The City Council, Planning Commission members and Division of Highways repre- sentatives then discussed the individual properties on Route 227 and how they would be affected by the widening. Mayor Schwartz thanked the representatives of the Division of Highways for their preview of the study of Route 227 and also .thanked the members of the Planning Commission for attending and taking part in the discussion.
