Councilwoman Melanie Billig. praised the staff for their fine work.on.the Downtown
Goals Statement. She would like to see something stronger for the downtown. She
suggested an emergency ordinance be initiated to protect the Granada Hotel
from being converted. She hoped the City could learn to approach these matters
in a more positive vein; not always in the negative.
Councilman Bond commented that he had recently sent letters to three large
department stores asking them to comment on the feasibility-of'_establishing
an• anchor store in the downtown or anywhere withiri..the city.. He:had received
responses from all three:.(Broadway, May Co. and Bullocks) and they informed
him that there was no possibility now or in the long range future that San
Luis Obispo would be able to support the size of these stores.
There being no further business to come before the meeting; Mayor Cooper
adjourned the meeting at 10:25 p.m. to Monday, September 17, 1979 at 12:10 p.m.
