HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION (HRC)
MINUTES REGULAR MEETING
November 5, 2014

CALL TO ORDER: 5:07 PM
PRESENT: Chairperson: Ron Tilley; Vice-Chairperson: Michelle Tasseff;
Commissioners: Gene Strohl
ABSENT: Commissioner: Robert Clayton, Maria Troy, and Janet Pierucci

PRESENT: Monica Irons, Human Resources Director
CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES:
ACTION: No action due to lack of a quorum.

BUSINESS ITEMS
Item 1. STATUS OF NEW HOMELESS SERVICES CENTER (TILLEY/SPATAFORE)
Mr. Spatafore provided a briefing on the status of the homeless services
center and responded to questions from the commissioners. He suggested
the City and County consider how to ensure ongoing funding and oversight so
that homeless services are sustainable.
Item 2. 2013-14 GRANTS-IN AID YEAR END REPORTS (TILLEY)
Commissioner Strohl reported that he visited CASA and was impressed with
the efficiency of their operations.
Chairperson Tilley reported he visited the Syringe Exchange Program.
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Vice-Chairperson Tasseff reported on the Mayor’s Quarterly Luncheon: 1) All
commissioners are asked to test the City’s new Open Government portal by

going to City of San Luis Obispo - About the Administration Department, 2) A
vacancy exists for an HRC commissioner and applicants should contact the
City Clerk’s office, 3) The SLO City Fire Department conducts free Home
Safety Visits to test smoke detectors and install/replace detectors for seniors.
There being no further business to come before the HRC, Chairperson Tilley adjourned the
HRC meeting at 6:04 p.m. to the regular meeting scheduled for Wednesday, December 3,
2014 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Hearing Room at 990 Palm St.
