Re: AB 532 Local Housing Trust Fund
NOTICE OF SUPPORT
Dear Assembly Member Gordon:
On behalf of the City of San Luis Obispo, I write to express support of your Senate Bill
532 which would make the remaining Proposition 1 C funds for the Local Housing Trust Fund
Matching Grant available for either existing or new trusts as well as extend the time an awardee
has to encumber program funds rather than reverting the unawarded funds to the CalHome
Program.
AB 532 would prevent over $8 million from being diverted from the Self -Help Housing
Fund to the Local Housing Trust Fund Matching Grant program. The Local Housing Trust Fund
Matching Grant Program provides dollar -for -dollar matching grants to cities, counties, or non-
profit organizations that form a housing trust fund using local dollars. The program requires
existing housing trust funds to provide a minimum match of $1 million and those that form new
local housing trust funds to provide a minimum match of $500,000. While the funding for
existing housing trust funds has been exhausted, over $8 million remains for newly formed trust
funds. Without AB 532, the remaining funds are to be transferred to the Self -Help Housing
Program.
For the above reasons, the City of San Luis Obispo supports AB 532.
Sincerely,
rer
Jan Marx
