HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-05-2018 HRC Minutes Minutes Human Relations Commission Wednesday, December 5, 2018 Regular Meeting of the Human Relations Commission CALL TO ORDER A Regular Meeting of the San Luis Obispo Human Relations Commission was called to order on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Hearing Room, located at 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo, California, by Chair Welts. ROLL CALL Present: Commissioners Bill Crewe, Michael Hopkins, Emily Rosten, and Chair Nancy Welts Absent: Commissioner Barrie DuBois, and Vice-Chair Sexton Staff: Cara Vereschagin, Assistant Planner; Hannah Clark, Planning Intern PUBLIC COMMENT FOR ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA None ---End of Public Comment--- CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES 1. ACTION: MOTION BY COMMISSIONER ROSTEN, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER CREWE CARRIED 4-0-2 to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Human Relations Commission of November 7, 2018. PUBLIC HEARINGS 2. 2019 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Draft Funding Recommendations Assistant Planner Vereschagin provided a PowerPoint presentation which contained an overview of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and the responsibility of the HRC in the grant process. Vereschagin also provided staff recommendations for the 2019 funding allocations. Public Comment None City of San Luis Obispo, Title, Subtitle Draft Minutes Human Relations Commission Meeting of December 5, 2018 Page 2 ---End of Public Comment--- ACTION: MOTION BY COMMISSIONER HOPKINS, SECOND BY COMMISSIONER ROSTEN CARRIED 4-0-2 to approve the staff funding recommendations for the 2019 Community Development Block Grant allocations. COMMISSION & STAFF COMMUNICATIONS 3. Staff Updates Assistant Planner Vereschagin discussed the current HRC vacancy and the current recruitment process for all City Advisory Bodies. She also reminded the Commission that the January 2nd meeting was canceled. Commissioner Crewe discussed that Shower the People has successfully began operating and that financial support continues to be donated. Commissioner Hopkins discussed the upcoming homeless Point-in-Time Count on January 28, 2019. He also notified the Commission about the County’s new proposed housing policy and inclusionary housing fee structure. Lastly, he mentioned that the Diversity & Inclusion Workshop hosted by Cal Poly was very uplifting and positive. Commissioner Rosten inquired about potential locations near Downtown SLO for portable showers and also about new development around the Downtown Core. ADJOURNMENT Chair Welts adjourned the meeting at 5:50 p.m. The next Regular meeting of the Human Relations Commission is scheduled for Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 5:00 p.m., in the Council Hearing Room, 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo, California APPROVED BY THE HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION: 02/06/2019
