Subject:More "granny units," not less!
To The Planning Commission and City Council of San Luis Obispo,
As a SLO city resident concerned about the shortage of affordable and available housing in our area, I
want to express my unhappiness with the proposed arbitrary and unnecessary restrictions being
considered by the Planning Commission.
ADUs and JADUs are one of the greatest tools in our toolbox to increase our available affordable
housing without heavily impacting the surrounding neighborhood (a frequent NIMBY complaint!). They
cost less than large apartment buildings and allow homeowners to be part of the solution, without
using scarce public funds. Many of the Commission's proposed ordinances regarding ADUs/JADUs will
make them more expensive, and thus more difficult to build. This is a cost our community cannot
afford, as homelessness and rents keep climbing.
Please keep the restrictions on ADUs/JADUs to the minimum required by state laws. Thank you for your
service to our community and our neighbors who need homes.
