SUBJECT: Item #14 – Update Regarding the Status of Recent Tobacco Regulations for the
City of Morro Bay and the County of San Luis Obispo
For Item #14 - Consideration of a Prohibition on the Sale of Flavored Tobacco and/or Electronic
Cigarette Products, under the section titled Other Cities/County in the Region (Packet Page 297),
there have been recent developments regarding the City of Morro Bay and the County of San Luis
Obispo that staff would like to bring to the City Council’s attention.
City of Morro Bay

On January 14, 2020, the City Council voted to postpone the 2 reading of their ordinance
concerning tobacco, a Tobacco License Program, a prohibition on the sale of e-cigarette products,
and secondhand smoke. The Council directed staff to place the item on a February meeting agenda
for more discussion.
County of San Luis Obispo
On January 14, 2020, the Board of Supervisors adopted an ordinance prohibiting the sale of
electronic smoking devices (e-cigarette products), including all flavored and non-flavored
products, until the completion of the FDA review process, in all unincorporated areas of the
County. The effective date of the ordinance is February 14, 2020.
