Subject:Vote on Public Art in SLO
Dear City Council and Mayor Harmon,
I just want to appeal to you all once again to set aside your plan to pass the restrictive policy for San Luis Obispo’s public
art. Projects should continue to be evaluated on a one by one basis even though that is not as quick and easy as
rejecting any projects honoring any individuals or real persons.
This past year the city of Detroit installed a statue of Rosa Parks in an existing park that bore her name. According to
your intended rigid policy that statue would never be welcome in a city park here.
As an added aside I may add that art representing ideas and concepts can also be seen as controversial at times.
