Subject:Public Art
Dear City Council,
Please reconsider your proposal to censor public art depicting real people, especially those who made substantial
contributions to San Luis Obispo. I agree with John Ashbaugh's recent article in The Tribune. I also agree with Jan Marx
who wrote, "If you do not want a statue of Teddy Roosevelt in Mitchell Park, vote it down. But do not allow your poor
opinion of one man to serve as an excuse to engage in wholesale censorship of public art." In other words as my mom
used to say, "Don't cut off your nose to spite your face." Another cliche . . . "Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater."
