Regardless of its intent to encourage diversity, the execution of such a policy smacks of censorship and suppression. Most importantly, I ask you to consider why you would set yourselves up as arbiters of the public taste? That is not your function as a governing body. It is not your place to tell us what is appropriate, what is art, what is worthy and what is unworthy. I hate to break it to you; your judgment about what is appropriate in public is no better than any of ours. I think it is misguided to put yourselves in the position of enacting laws purely on the basis of your own personal tastes and opinions. There's got to be a better way to encourage diverse voices in art than this poorly conceived overreach. I'm in the arts community and feel compelled to push back on attempts at censorship, high-minded though you may imagine them to be. The public is smarter than you are giving us credit for. We don't need you to tell us what to think. Please vote no. Sincerely, Chrys Barnes 1525 La Cita San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 1
