Subject:Statue Policy
Honorable Mayor, City Council Members.
The proposal to honor T Roosevelt was good in that it initiated a policy; unfortunately, it is a bad policy, ham fisted indeed.
Please take more time, declare a moratorium on all new statuary proposals, adopt a policy that has certain fundamental
criteria: if honoring a person,
1 the person is dead (minimum amount of time?);
2 the person is allowed to be imperfect;
3 the person made a significant and direct contribution to the region;
4 sites for statues should be identified in the plan (more could be added later);
5 the policy does not discrmintae etc etc...;
6 there should be an established ratio of public/private funding (even 0/100);
7 permit for placement of the statue could have a sunset that would be automatically renewed unless objection
is filed...etc etc.
