Wanting to avoid personal depictions because people are inherently flawed does not make any sense. One cannot idolize an idea, they can only look up to a person. Idea's don't change anything, its only the specific way in which they are carried out by people that change the world. The world is filled with pseudo intellectuals with ideas that will never change anything. I understand that Roosevelt was bad to native Americans, but when we memorialize someone we slice their lives up into the pieces we want to remember, and that is our inspiration. Saying you want to generically save the environment does not help the world at all, by contrast seeing how someone actually was able to protect the most beautiful nature in the US for generations is inspiring. I am sure that Hitler did one or two nice things in his life, but we will never remember that, he will only be known as one of the most evil people to ever walk the earth. On this day after MLK day let us remember he died an enemy of the state. Don't limit our cities ability for people to express themselves. You already have the power to prevent a specific statue if it is in bad taste. I am wondering why this is insufficient? It is going to be seen as San Luis Obispo falling in line with newer more radical left that is on a conquest to limit free speech. This is in starch contrast to liberalism which emphasized the freedom for a person or people to freely express themselves. Libertarian Delegate, spokesperson, and Newsletter committee member for California. Sincerely Marvin Byrd 1
