Subject:Changes in the Public Art Policy
Council Members:
When I read that the city was considering this change in policy, to not ever use a human image when
erecting public art, I was stunned. This strikes me as a very short-sighted
idea which would inhibit the community's ability to honor any person, for any reason. I'm sort of
wondering what would be allowed. A statue to honor butterflies or bees, both which are
admirable creatures, however sometimes there actually is a person who deserves the respect of a
community and that community should be free to honor them with a statue, a mural or whatever
form of art it wishes.
Please do not impose this wrong-headed decision on the community.
Thank you,
Shane K. VerPlanck, Amateur Photographer
