City Staff have been working to reduce the fire threat at the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) at
Bowden Ranch. Over 75 non-native eucalyptus trees were removed in the creek corridor to support
the ongoing succession planning and to protect the resident native trees.
2019FUEL REDUCTION PROJECTS
The City received a “grant” for 12 days of
project labor from the California
Conservation Corp. (CCC) through the
Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF)
a partnership through the State.
Much of the eucalyptus duff and dead limbs (ground fuel) were removed to prevent/reduce
the potential for a fire to spread in the neighborhood should one start. This was a big work
effort and a good model to be replicated in support of the ongoing efforts we have in WUI
areas across the City.
Before
After
The crew was specifically assigned for fuel
reduction projects and the Bowden Ranch
project fit in line perfectly with that goal.
