Dear Council,
I am writing about Item 9 of tomorrow’s City Council Agenda.
I am in support of the increase to Council members monthly compensation. Public service is very
difficult, especially these days. The public is too fired up and people are too angry. People tend to lash
out against these institutions for all the wrong reasons. A few citizens of our City stand up and take the
heat. They make half the town upset with whatever decision they make and that is a very hard job. It is
hard to tolerate the public discourse these days and our Council does this on our behalf. They sacrifice
so that we don’t have to. They make decisions, ultimately to make our City great, and even when I don’t
agree with them, I am grateful for the job they do. This pay raise is a very small amount of our City
budget. It still seems very low given the cost of living in our town so am in support of this one and the
next one.
