Subject:Support for Compensation Committee's Recommendation
Dear esteemed council members,
I write to enthusiastically and wholeheartedly support the compensation committee's recommendation
to increase compensation for the position of mayor and city council members.
Adopting this recommendation would be one step toward making access to elected office as equitable
as possible, which would be an appropriate reflection of the values that this community strives to
uphold. Increasing compensation in this way could improve diversity of representation along a whole
range of axes, including age, socioeconomic status, race, ability, and parenthood, to name just a few.
The recommendations put forth by the committee seem to have minimal budget impact. Even this
relatively minor change, however, seems long overdue.
I understand votes like this can be difficult. Please know there are many of us out here who see how
hard you work, understand how big these jobs are, and really want to see a political process that
provides a seat at the table for all.
Thank you all so much for all you do for this community. I respectfully urge you to vote in favor of this
well-considered, thoughtful, and important recommendation.
