Mayor and City Council:
San Luis Obispo is not a large city and the mayor/council positions are a community
service rather than a job. Governor Jerry Brown used to call this "psychic pay."
It is your choice to serve our community. Many of San Luis Obispo's Mayors and
Council members have held full or part-time jobs. Do the Mayor and Council members
receive medical, dental
or vision benefits? Do you get into the PERS state retirement system? What are the
monetary values of these benefits?
Please do not award yourselves raises again since you just raised your salaries in
2018. Your aim of diversity would be much more well-served by going to a district
representation/election system. When you give yourselves raises you're actually
making the town less affordable.
Please allow democracy to work, place the question of your raises on the ballot and let
the residents of San Luis Obispo vote on the issue. Thank you.
