Thank you for the continued dialogue!! Sorry I've been slammed the last couple of weeks in final preparation for our UWUA MASS MEETING in regards to our position on electrification. I am happy to report that on Saturday, over 1500+ members of the UWUA turned out in support of our mass meeting and our upcoming legislation, the Wade Kilpatrick Bill. Both Politicians who will author and co-sponsor the bill in (D) Maria Elena-Durazo and Assemblyman (R) Tyler Diep were in attendance and gave incredible speeches about our bill. As far as continuing support for our bill, YES there is! Once we have it completely finalized and is ready to be introduced in late January, by then we will have a dedicated number and title to the bill, which will be introduced in the Senate. Once we have that, we would appreciate all of the support we can get in our efforts to not only reduce methane emissions but crack-down on cowboy contractors that create a hazard to the public and other workers. We will develop a specific work plan of what is the best way to demonstrate support and encourage voters and politicos to get this bill through. We will keep you apprised of our efforts and will let you know the next time our collective leadership team comes up to SLO for one of our Union meetings, perhaps if given enough notice you could drop in and attend, we would love that! Thank you Madam Mayor, your leadership is encouraging. Keep up the great work and championing labor and working people!!!! -Eric Hofmann President UWUA Local 132 AFL-CIO UWUA National Executive Board Member erichofmann@uwua132.org (909) 305-9802 office (951) 333-5879 On Saturday, November 9, 2019, 01:49:39 PM PST, Harmon, Heidi <hharmon@slocity.org> wrote: Is there anything else that I can do to support this effort?   From: Johnson, Derek <djohnson@slocity.org>  Sent: Monday, November 4, 2019 1:06 PM  To: erichofmann .Harmon, Heidi <hharmon@slocity.org>  Subject: RE: some material 2 Dear Eric, Thank you for the materials and information and have reviewed the proposed 8-1-1 bill and it appears to align with our platform and interests and can please notify us as the bill gains traction and we can provide the appropriate input to state officials. I have reviewed the other attachments and shared them with our sustainability team as we update our Climate Action Plan are evaluating not only what measures the City can take to address climate change and also make sure that we integrate social and economic factors into the plan as well. All the best and please stay in touch. Sent: Thursday, October 31, 2019 5:40 PM To: Harmon, Heidi <hharmon@slocity.org> Cc: Johnson, Derek <djohnson@slocity.org> Subject: some material Honorable Madam Mayor, I have attached some of the documents you indicated you were interested in. First and foremost, the EFI "Energy Futures Initiative" Report is a fascinating read on the issues of climate change and how to best address them, particularly in California. The report is authored by the former Secretary of Energy under President Obama, Dr. Ernest Moniz, (successfully negotiated the Iran nuclear deal) and gives a very compelling scientific argument over the transition of energy fuels and how to achieve California's ambitious climate goals. Also I've enclosed a very rough draft of our Wade Kilpatrick Bill, in honor of our fallen brother Wade Kilpatrick who lost his life in the line of duty because of negligence to 8-1-1 Dig Alert. Again our bill focuses on Three main pillars: 1.) fixing the leaks, holding the Cpuc and Utilities accountable for 3 making sure we are fixing the leaks that we know are in our system but are not considered a threat to the public so are therefore never really fixed. 2.) Making 8-1-1 Dig-Alert have more teeth. A real focus on penalties for cowboy contractors and repeat offenders of a very serious safety risk not to mention unnecessary release of un-burned methane, which is 84 times more potent that Co2 over a 20 year period in terms of a warming blanket effect, and 3.) Qualified and Adequate workforce: The UWUA believes that natural gas will play a significant role in providing energy for several decades to come and with it needs a qualified and adequate workforce to develop and maintain a tight, robust leak-less gas system which can provide affordable and sustainable energy for millions of consumers. Lastly, a copy of our Mass Meeting flyer I talked about in which we will have Senator Maria Elena Durazo and Assemblyman Tyler Diep present to introduce our legislation to our members and what our focus will be on educating the public on the threat of electrification and its effects on the average energy consumer. Secretary Moniz and his team will be in attendance also, along with several Labor Leaders from LiUna, UA, USW, IBT, IBEW 465 & 18, who all have a vested interest in enhancing the gas infrastructure, making it more renewable, and cleaning it up with hydrogen to work in conjunction with wind, solar, lithium ion batteries as a comprehensive balanced energy portfolio to meet our climate goals. I will send over the hydrogen and RNG documents you requested tomorrow. Thanks again for taking the meeting with me, I appreciated the conversation very much and look forward to working with you and Derek and the rest of your team in the future.
