Agenda item #4 - March 4, 2020
I would like the Commission to consider that this report ignores the empirical data that shows the use of the French Park
facilities for Pickleball and tennis.
I am at French Park 4 to 5 days a week and can attest that on most days that the tennis court is reserved for tennis, it is
rarely used while the three Pickleball courts are full and there are people waiting to play pickle ball. However, they are
not allowed to use the tennis court even though it sits empty.
I understand that time needs to be allocated to each sport, but what doesn’t make sense to me is that the proposed
schedule on the staff report actually reduces the time allocated to Pickleball on the multi use tennis court down to nine
hours a week!
I would also like to point out to the commission that there are eight public tennis courts in the city of SLO compared to 3
Pickleball courts. In addition there are 7 tennis courts at Cal Poly, 6 at SLO High and 3 at Laguna Jr. High.
Thank you for taking my comments into consideration.
