Dear Parks and Recreation Commission Chair and Members; I am commenting on the proposed schedule changes on the Upper Pickleball Courts and lower Tennis Courts to be discussed March 4, 2020 at the Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting for the City of San Luis Obispo. Looking at the existing schedule and proposed schedule. I would recommend the following changes to maximize the use of the Upper Pickleball Courts and Lower Tennis Courts for both pickleball and tennis players. 1. On the noon to Sunset hours on the lower tennis court and pickleball courts, I would drop the word tennis only for drop in play and allow both user types on the court. It does not make sense on drop in play to restrict it to one user or another. The current system seems to be working and the only reason for pickleball players to use the lower courts is if the upper courts are full and the lower tennis court is not being used. (You may want to give tennis players priority. If tennis players show up. The Pickleball players should be allowed to finish their current game, then let the tennis players on.) 2. On Saturday morning, I would change the lower Tennis Court and Pickleball Courts to allow both Pickleball and Tennis players. (You may want to give tennis players priority. If tennis players show up. The Pickleball players should be allowed to finish their current game, then let the tennis players on.) 3. I see that Group Pickleball Play on Friday on the tennis court was moved from Friday to Sunday. I would Keep the Sunday Day and add back the Friday Day as that is a very popular morning time for the Pickleball Club. 4. The wait time to get on either a Pickleball or Tennis Court is currently 1.5 hours when the courts are occupied during drop in play. I would change the wait time to a maximum of 1 hour, (or 3 pickleball games, including the current game which ever is shorter, or two sets for tennis including the current set whichever is shorter), instead of the 1.5 hours currently posted. By making these changes, or something similar, I believe the City of San Luis Obispo will do a better job of maximizing the use of the Pickleball and Tennis Facilities at French. Thank you for your time. 1 Sincerely, Gary Felsman 1266 Sumac Court San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 (805)473-3694 Support the Land Conservancy of SLO (Local People for Local Land) and The Ventana Wilderness Alliance helping to restore trails in the Big Sur Wilderness. 2
